Apparently there was talks between the two but it fell apart because EA wants to release all of its own updates / DLCs through Origin and Steam requires all DLCs to be released through them IIRC. So not going to happen.

Lot of hooplah over Origin, it's not "that" bad.

It's just another steam client really. I don't care if I need it. I just want to play some BF3!
