Re: Palindrome Discussion
I've moved a short distance west of spawn, and am delighted to report there is a jungle not too far in that direction.
I've set up shop on the western coast in that jungle, overlooking the sea, at around -750 150.

Re: Palindrome Discussion
I have set up an outpost due south of spawn at roughly 10 & 10,000. Also, I noticed a woodland mansion on my way there. Can I reserve that one to raid when I am more equipped?
I have jungle, dark oak, desert, and corral reef biomes on my way out here. I would like to find a mesa biome...let me know if you do please?

Re: Palindrome Discussion
I found a nice hill to build on to the north and in my initial exploring of the immediate basement found a skelly spawner 30 blocks underground. I'll try to get an XP farm set up as soon as I can.
Also, anyone else having issues with the map not displaying properly?

Same Mr. T, the map seems to have issues.
Not sure if 1.18 broke everything or if theres some other underlying issue.

Re: Palindrome Discussion
During the last map reset I had to do something manual to kickstart the map. Of course I didn't write down what that was...
I'm work on it this weekend and then add the steps to the Server Ops documentation for future resets.
Also the MapCrafter software is way behind on releases so we'll still have the problem with newer blocks not rendering.

Flash,
A termporary workaround could be in the meantime to create a link to the nightly backup file [tar.gz] in the Minecraft Server Information and FAQ thread.

I found a lush cave at 1118, -719. Turns out if you see an azalea tree growing by itself thats the indication that theres a lush cave below it.

Re: Palindrome Discussion
JD,
That is what I found where Ladeee and I are at. There was a long string of "lone" azalea trees about 100 - 150 blocks apart (about 5 maybe more) roughly in a line.
When we dug down there is a huge string of lush caves all connected (and easy to get lost - DOH).
I love this biome and want to build an abode in the even lower deepslate that the lush cave is on the edge of!
I now understand why they changed the spawn mechanics to require a light level of 0 rather than 7 to spawn mobs. It would take a butt-ton of torches to sufficiently light up the new caves.

Re: Palindrome Discussion
Inner suggested another map renderer, Unmined, so I gave it a shot. It runs fine locally but is is crashing part way through the render on the server.
Before I spend any time on it, let me know if this format is OK, or if my time would be better spent on a fork of MapCrafter like we are used to:

Re: Palindrome Discussion
That format looks reasonable, though I'd be interested to know if (when it's working properly) it offers a higher zoom level? Always nice to be able to actually see what's going on up close.

Re: Palindrome Discussion
The GUI version does offer higher zoom, I'd need to see if it can be done with the CLI version. There was nothing in the web documentation about it but I haven't dug deep.

Re: Palindrome Discussion
Flash, I do like the look of unmined and if its supported and being updated I would think its better to put ones efforts towards it.
As much as I like and am used to the mapcrafter maps AFIK its not being updated and with more and more new blocks and content coming out it will likely just get worse to use. I do like the features where you can see where players are, and tag items to show up on the map but I think if theres no support or development still going on then it might be best to stop using it.

Re: Palindrome Discussion
The one thing I don't like about Unmined is that it is closed source.
MapCrafter isn't totally dead. There are folks working on it: https://github.com/mapcrafter/mapcrafter/issues/388
And more up to date forks: https://github.com/miclav/mapcrafter/tree/world117
I'll poke around at both a bit more.
