Moooo!

I'm unlikely to be there right at the moment it comes up (dang it!) since that is my anniversary and we'll be out celebrating, but hopefully I can swing by to join in short order!

So, in this late hour... will the server be using default settings?

I ask because it looks like there are some goodies in 1.12 -- specifically, custom "advancements" (that replace achievements) and the "doLimitedCrafting" flag, which only lets you craft recipes you've unlocked. I have mixed feelings about that flag, since I haven't played with it on -- on the one hand, it'll probably be obnoxious to have to unlock recipes before being able to use them, but on the other hand, I think that would be a fair challenge, especially given our general level of familiarity and skill with the game.

On the other hand, some reports claim that doLimitedCrafting effectively has no teeth.

Any thoughts on either of those settings? I assume we'll be spinning the server up as 1.12.2?

Hmmm, interesting. So is on by default or is it something we would have to turn on?

And I guess my dumb question is how do you unlock a craft recipe if we do turn it on?

It's off by default.

It looks like for most recipes, you learn the recipe when you get a critical component of that recipe... hence, the complaint that (overall) the feature doesn't really do much in terms of gameplay. There are some things (like bowls and boats) that you learn by other means (collecting a mushroom or standing in water, respectively), but they seem to be very few and far between.

I was reading more about it too. Kind of odd how they implemented it. I don’t know that it would add much to the game.

I went on a long trek/boatride yesterday. Ran into a Mooshroom Island, put up a portal, I have the coords downstairs and I will post the info later.
