Re: Tekkit server restart date

Post by Boss Llama » Mon Aug 17, 2015 11:40 am

Sounds like that's that pack folks want, so we can definitely make it happen, and get the bonus of the 1.7.10 update in the process. I may be able to alter the screwed up DW20 resource generation... not sure. If I can, I'll set it back towards a more normal distro, if not, we can deal.

So, officially here it is:

Friday, August 21st, we'll reset the server

I'll do it in the evening, as close to 7:00pm Eastern Time as I can.

We'll use the FTB: Direwolf20 1.7.10 (v1.6.1) pack

You'll need the Feed The Beast launcher

When you run the launcher, select the middle tab at the top, labeled "FTB Modpacks"
Then, in the left window, scroll down to "FTB Presents Direwolf20 (v1.6.1) Minecraft Version 1.7.10 By the FTB Team" and select it.
Once selected, launch it, log in, download, and sign on.

IP should remain the same, 199.202.218.139:56790

Sounds sweet, looking forward to it! Just wish the launch date wasn't so far away :P

Should we make this into a Global News Event, any maybe also create an event on the Steam group so that we can fill up the server for this as much as possible?

For anybody interested, here's a list with images of the 93 biomes and sub-biomes we'll be getting to check out. Note that "Promised Lands" will not be included, because we're under a 1.7+ version of MC. Some of the biomes are identical to the default ones (since the BoP generation replaces the normal one, and it needs to keep them) but most are new and unfamiliar.

For my own part, I'm hoping to find either a Seasonal Forest, Temperate Rain Forest, Redwood Forest, Maple Wood, or Cherry Blossom Grove located alongside or very near an Orchard or maybe a Mystic Grove, all with a at least one large shallow lake or sea readily accessible. That's not too much to ask, right? :-D

Also, with the Natura mod active, I think I am required to have a nice patch of raspberries planted. They are nature's most perfect fruit, so it's only right.

Between Natura, BOP, Forestry, Botania, Thaumcraft, Twilight Forest, Witchery, and goodness knows what others, I feel like just creating a nursery with one of each plant, flower, and tree in the game will be one heck of a challenge.

Out of an abundance of being nerdy, I went through all the mods on the wiki and did my best to assemble a list of all the new ores, alloys, trees, and plants that we'll be working with on the new server. Some of these may be reduced to slightly smaller numbers through mods which synchronize the ore dictionary (there are 4 each of copper, tin, and bronze, for example), and I likely missed a couple as well, but there will be roughly:

45 new ores

I also noticed by World jumping in creative that there's a lot of new mobs in the overworld and nether. Should make things a lot more interesting.

Yeah - I just started jumping in and out of some SP worlds to see what it would look like, and man oh man... most of the flowers I saw weren't even on the list I made above, and I didn't recognize many of the ores and blocks either. The walled cities are pretty cool, and seem like they're pretty common. The trees are fantastic. I hope this runs well, because it's going to take weeks just to sort through stuff and figure out what it all is! I imagine backpacks will be a high priority for nearly everybody, since you won't be able to take 10 steps without finding a dozen different items to fill inventory slots that you wouldn't have found before.

Came across this as I explored some on single player. The meteors took out a chunk of Alpine mountain and landed right next to a village. And it also managed to cause a leak of sewage and sludge down the side of it as well.

So I noticed there's a portal gun mod in this pack that's really well done and I was thinking I should try and get a portal gun for some unique gameplay in the mid to early-late game then I saw it needs a nether star to be created.....

I found one in a chest on one of my SP maps. Given as I was running around in creative mode just exploring, I didn't have much need, but I tested it out and it seems to work quite nicely for some short range hopping around. It would be an ideal tool for early game exploration when we can't fly, jump off cliffs safely, etc, but obviously unless we get one early from luck, it'll take a while before we can get our hands on them.

Doing a bit of reading, it appears the standard portal gun creates portals that are limited to one set per server, per dimension. IE, if three people have portal guns, they can still only ever have one set of portals between them in any given dimension, and one person creating a new portal with it would overwrite/replace whatever matching portal somebody else had put elsewhere. There are some modified versions (Bacon Gun and Potato Gun) listed in the Wiki, which mention being meant as "personal" portal guns for multiplayer situations, but I can't tell if this creates just a second set of portals that has to be shared by all holders of the alternate gun type, or if they actually create unique individual portal sets for people. There are also Atlas and P-Body models, as well as a single-color one, all meant for Adventure Mode games (which is what the whole mod was originally created for).

Hmm according to the wiki that's exactly how it works, if your using a bacon or Potato gun, then the portals you create will your individual portals.

You could probably do some cool stuff with the regular portal gun like teleport across the map by shooting one portal and having a friend shoot the other.

As a final update before tomorrow night's reset, I've got the server down and have been working through the configs and settings to try and make sure it goes off without a hitch. I'm leaving it as close to unmodified as I think is reasonable, but figure I should let ya'll know what the changes are from the default, just so nothing catches anybody off guard:

- JourneyMap, by default, gives people radar and the ability to see caves and such without actually having sightlines (xray vision, basically). Rader and cave maps have been disabled.

- Factorization creates strange creatures generally called Colossal Sentinels, which are extremely glitched boss mobs that serve little purpose. Every discussion I've been able to find about them consists of how they crash servers and permanently corrupt large areas, besides being extremely bugged even when they don't do that. SP testing concurs. I've disabled them (their loot can be obtained in other ways).

- Extra Utilities, as mentioned in a previous post, has some game-breaking stuff. I left in almost everything, but there were five items I removed - the Peaceful Table (free automatic mob killing and loot farming, meant for peaceful mode servers), the Chandelier and Magnum Torch (both utterly prevent the spawning of mobs in giant areas, which is just stupid), the Angel Block (basically a creative-mode crutch), and the Angel Ring (Sorry! I tested it out, but it doesn't drain hunger at all, and really is just unlimited creative-mode flight).

- Ore generation under DW20 is reduced and limited in scope. I've bumped it slightly back towards normal, because it really isn't in balance with the game they way he has it, IMO.

Otherwise, it should all be default for the modpack. I'll continue doing some checking and testing, and obviously if you're aware of something that needs to be changed or checked before we get underway, let me know!

- Edit -

Oh, also as previously discussed, I believe I succeeded in nuking the "Morph" mod, which is pretty much meant for PvP and griefing. Some cool concepts, but attached to some very dangerous stuff.

Is the scaled back version based on the default ore distribution or the Direwolf20 custom ore generation as per the google doc?
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... edit#gid=0

I need to know on what layer to search for what ore!
