I updated Stevo's server. Don't know about TV5.* Working server-side inventory! Finally! (And as a result of that, a whole pile of bugs and issues got fixed)
* Made SMP servers save chunks way less often in most cases. Chunks don’t resave if they got saved in the last 30 seconds
* Moving too far away from a container, or having it blow up, closes the inventory screen
* Fixed /kill
* Introduced leaf decay again. It acts differently from before
* You can now throw eggs
* On a whim, added super exclusive clan cloaks for Mojang Employees
* .. and something else, which is even more rare

Leaf Decay sounds pretty nice. No more chunks of dead trees in the way.

Re: Minecraft Beta Update
I wonder if this means the "throw tool down, pick up repaired tool" bug got fixed... Which means that resources just got a heck of a lot more valuable.* Working server-side inventory! Finally! (And as a result of that, a whole pile of bugs and issues got fixed)
Do we have to re-download the game now? I tried to play and it wouldn't let me. Nevermind. It's working now. WELCOME TO BETA!
Things I have noticed so far:
-Mousing over items in your inventory will now tell you what they are. (Helpful to new players!)
-The durability regeneration bug has been fixed. That means you can no longer throw an item down and pick it up again with full durability. Keep an eye on your tool quality!
-Draw distance has been significantly improved.
-Compact boosters no longer work. (>=/) Still have yet to test diagonal boosters. And now they're working fine. What the heck!

Minecraft not recognizing the server IP in the steam community. Anyone else get it to work?

I got it to work. Everything should be working right now, right?
When beta was kicking in, all teamspeak users at the time were naming all their difficulties. Especially iown, lol.

Re: Minecraft Beta Update
That's the wrong IP. It's in the thread, you can also lift it from the TF2 server list on the main page, since it's the same as TV12 (I think).Gonzo wrote:Minecraft not recognizing the server IP in the steam community. Anyone else get it to work?
I guess it's finally time to start using stone tools again. Anyone notice if leather armor now degrades properly?

Re: Minecraft Beta Update
Wait, what community has the IP wrong? My Derpcrafting group should have the right IP....
They're also listed in the TS3 server under the description for the Minecraft channel.

Re: Minecraft Beta Update
TV5 updated.
Noticed armor also degrades as well.
Tree farms and cobble are going to get more important!
I'm going to have to put my beloved diamond tools away!
Also noticed everything is laggy.
May have to move the server onto a Linux server instead.

Re: Minecraft Beta Update
The tools are WAAAAAAAY too fragile. Obscenely so.
The main attraction of minecraft is that it offers a sandbox in which one can build and play with very few restrictions. With tools as fragile as they are, it effectively prevents any sort of major construction work.
Chamber 1 of my primary mine, bear in mind this is just one room of several, would require nearly 400 iron picks to create. That's 1200 units of iron, and 100 raw lumber, just to make the picks to create a single room. Doing it with diamond tools would take less lumber, but would still require as many diamonds as I believe have been legitimately found by our entire server population since starting.
I'm currently down to using stone tools, which require double the lumber of iron, and my inventory when I enter the mines is almost nothing but picks. I can just barely do half of a 1 space wide line across the room with one of these picks, and they take about 3 times longer to each break stone than the diamond ones.
I'm sincerely hoping all durabilities are significantly increased, by a factor of at least 10. I don't mind things wearing down, but at the moment it is simply absurd and disheartening. All the big projects just got hosed, and anything worth building now will take many times longer, from a combination of crap tools, and the necessity of constantly stopping to replace them.

Re: Minecraft Beta Update
I'm told that item durability is a known glitch, and should be fixed tomorrow. None the less, I'd be in favor of a game setting that turns it off completely. I want to have fun, darnit.

Re: Minecraft Beta Update
I'd be in favor of being able to build a hammer that repairs my tools, but has a durability all on its own which cannot be repaired (otherwise you'd just have two hammers repairing each other). Seems fair to me. Looks like I'll be using my hands for a while.
