my monitor is dying

My monitor is dying. It's brightness levels keep randomly changing w/o any input, to the point that black is nonexistant and colors start getting washed out.

I need suggestions for a replacement. I would prefer a CRT, but those are getting hard to find.

I dont want to have to deal with images and stuff getting distorted because lcd's have funny screen ratios.

i would just scan newegg.com thats probably the best place to find crts now, though shipping might be a pain.

whats wierd is that if I unplug the thing for about 2 minutes the colors go back to normal.

Anyway this is what I ordered to replace it

i've talked to you about this before... but i'm still not sure why you refuse to go LCD. i was the same way for a while till i got this 20" acer monitor and its like $20 more than what you are getting there.( or at least with my discount it was) images don't get distorted so long as you pick the right resolution and if you have any sort of decent graphics card it won't be a problem.

Have you tried the landfill or the recycling center? You can probably dig up an old CRT there. If not, then buy a CRT television and hook it up to that. CRT is going be dying completely soon. I suggest you either deal with the distortions or figure out a way to remove them.

I've never heard of people having problems with images on a computer monitor. Some TV's have that problem since the signal is a fixed aspect ratio, but the computer should be able to scale properly.

I'm just a po'boy and can't afford to spend anything other than rent and booze. So my 20" KDS usa crt is going to have to last for awhile longer. :)

putting a desk fan on top of my monitor pointing into the top vents is working for now.

Aren't CRTs in the history books now?

I'm not sure I get the argument for LCD and funny screen ratios. So you don't use laptops?

I remember having my 19" CRT. Carrying that thing to college was a pain. I've never had any problems with an LCD monitor.
