steam + OC8800GT = death?

So I read this review on a card I've been wanting to buy
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814125088
Is there any truth to his claim? I have a 7600GT rediculously OCed and it just gives me the hl2.exe not responding. Maybe is it just this card?
"Great Card... Except...
Reviewed By: on 4/8/2008 Tech Level: somewhat high - Ownership: 1 month to 1 year
Pros: The card comes with a nice afterstock cooler which keeps it at slightly lower temps than the stock 8800gt's. The card runs everything pretty well, with one major exception* (see cons)
Cons: Biggest is my own mistake, it's about $70 cheaper now with the rebate, but that's what you get with technology. The card with it's afterstock cooler (although nice at keeping the card cool) overlaps a PCI slot, it's not a big deal for me, but I can see it being a problem for a lot of people. *My biggest con with this card, and well, all overclocked (from manufacturer), is that Steam games (especially TF2) give errors when I run the card any higher than stock. It's really not the manufacturer's fault, but it's very aggravating.
Other Thoughts: In all honesty I would have gone with a normal 600mhz/900mhz 8800gt had I known that TF2, the game I really like to play, would not let me play at the manufacturers settings (and even when I bring them down the game is sometimes unplayable with 20-30 fps spikes)

All I can say is...
my 8800GTS works great with all my steam games. Was only 250 from new egg about 3 months ago.
My whole system has not been over clocked at all. And, Im running 2560x1600 full details and AA etc.

Well, I just recieved my 8800GTS from newegg on monday and boy can i say this thing flys!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814127328 -$120
Ive had 0 issues with steam, nor any other games that ive played, Bioshock, TF2, COD4, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Oblivion. All these games run with max settings loose about 10fps when I add in AA but at those higher resolutions I dont notice much of a difference with or without AA. . . Only running max 1280 because of my monitor.
BTW i have not even tried to OC yet so im sure it has plenty of potential though.

I've OCed my old g80 based 8800gts640 at times and as long as your cooling is adequate it should not give you problems. Back before I turned up its fan I would get corrupted textures after hours of full load. Newer drivers and keeping its fan at 80% have fixed that.
Actually my gts640 is factory oc'd by 13MHz (not much), and I dont get errors from it.

Ok well then now my next question is 8800GT or 8800GTS (G80)? All I care about is playing my games max @ 1680X1050 I play TF2, Bioshock, COD4 and want to play Spore and Fallout 3. I'd like it to be quieter than my 7600GT (I swear they put a jet turbine on this thing) and be able to play the aboe mentioned games. Also I have no plans to SLI. The two cards I was looking at was the previously mentioned Gigabyte 8800GT (700mhz core) and this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130082
Finally I can play TF2 pretty well with my 7600GT but I know it may not handle some games I'll want to play down the line. My thoughts are should I wait out (6 months) and get a card that supports DX10.1 or just go Radeon 3870?

HAHA yup, except it's DX10! LOL
BTW thanks for the replies, but why a 8800GTS instead of a 8800GT, I have read a lot about how you get little performance boost for almost $50 more.

I was gunna suggest this card here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130337
But now let me explain here:
The GTS has better cooling than the GT, its not a single slot card. You say you dont get $50 more performance wise, or about 20% greater performance... well duh. Look at RAM? 20-100% or greater increases in price for 1-10% performance. CPU... the $1000 core 2 extreme quads do not perform 4x as better as the core 2 quad now do they? not even 50% better. I say get the GTS bc it is a better card than the GT and it will run cooler. Now if you are concerned about bang for your buck than here is my suggestion, do not even get an 8800GT, get two of these G80 8800GTS for performance equal to that of an 8800 Ultra:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130082
That will give u approximately 5% better performance over a single 8800 Ultra, for a lesser cost.
Now if you a still sold on a G92 8800 GT... the thing is, there are different 8800 GTs and they all perform differently. There is an 8800GT that will outperform an 8800GTS(G92) So it can go either way.
But here is an 8800GT that i think you were lookin for, one like this:

Generally speaking dual-slot cooling solutions can be a little quieter because they have more area to bleed off heat. Youre not just paying more for performance, youre paying more for a little less noise.

That's the card I have... It works great so far, and to address the additional question, I can say that this specific card has given me absolutely zero problems with tf2.
I have it running with a 2.66 core duo Wolfdale, 4 gigs of RAM on an EVGA 780i mobo. The case is the monstrous Armor Case that MrBlah recommends. I really like it, frankly. Anyway, I am using two in an SLI configuration, but I never dip below 80 and run sometimes in the high hundreds for fps.
