I just seemed to be thinking, anyone wonder why nVidia didnt tag the G92 chipset differently? I was certainly wondering why an entirely new chipset, on a different process tech, 65nm instead of 90nm for the G90 chipset, wasnt given a different name. Why didnt nVidia release an 8900GT and an 8900GTS for example? instead of 8800GT and new 8800GTS(there are two models, on with the G90 and one with the G92)
beyond all that, why didnt nVidia label them as the 9000 series even. A single 8800GTS on the G92 chipset outperforms my dual 8800 Ultras in SLI so it really makes me curious as to why nVidia didnt do this. It make no sense to me.
What your input?
Any idea why the G92 GPU wasnt retagged?

My theory: clerical error. Someone typed an 8 instead of a 9 for the gt, and by the time anyone noticed it was too late to change it.

I dont know, but they sure fudged the bucket as there are about 4-5 differnt versions of the 8800GTS. Makes people who arent so tech savvy make a possible bad decision.[quote="MrBlah";p="57807"]

What? Are you sure? In all the benchmarks I have seen the new GTS is on par with the GTX, surely not better than a single Ultra, let alone Sli'ed ultras.

If you ever want to let go of those ultra's for cheap. Let me know!
