This is another thread to go on with Beeron choosing a new processor, AMD or Intel, I didn't really want to thread crap so here is another thread.

According to http://www.techreport.com/discussions.x/13721 and somewhat confirmed by AMD:

An industry source at a tier-two reseller told The Tech Report that the TLB erratum has led to a "stop ship" order on all Barcelona Opterons. When asked for comment, spokesman Phil Hughes said AMD is shipping Barcelona Opterons now, but only for "specific customer deals.

hmm I thought they were going to just microcode patch them to disable the tlb, which would decrease performance but get rid of the errata. Also I thought the errata only effected 2.4+ GHz phenoms and barcelonas.

Either way, steer clear until the B3 stepping, which should clear it all up.

Aren't the Opterons just like the Intel Celeron's, those 'crappy' mobile CPUs? Or are they more like the Intel Itanium (the server processors)??

Opterons are the equivalent of Xeons. Semprons are Celerons. Athlons are Pentiums. Turions are Pentium Ms. Geodes are their teensy wheensy embedded chips, which I dont believe intel has a current competitor for.

Nothing is the equivalent of the HMS tItanic (which sucks).
