Bought the orange box! Disc drives don't work!

Post by bigfoot_hunter » Tue Oct 16, 2007 3:37 pm

Went to install tf2 and our drives don't work! Lights blink, tray opens but still says insert cd. Hmm. Pulled another drive out of a junker, still don't work.

Have a cd rom and dvd rom on eide 2. Have 2 Hds on eide1. Everything is set to cable select. Tried master/slave postions. Nope. Tried yet another drive. Still not. OK, went to system control panel, troubleshoot, says drives are fine.

Updated drivers, rolled back drivers. No. Could be MOBO problem?

Anyway entered product code on steam and dloaded games. Drives used to work about a month ago. I checked all connections to mobo, power and drives.

Any thoughts?

Do the drives work for other CDs or DVDs?

Umm.. You could put the disk in another computer on your network and run the disk from the other computer on your network, over your network..

or...

You could enter the Serial Number into steam by clicking

Games > Activate a Product on Steam

And then just download the games like that through steam.

Yeah activated product on steam, and no nothing reads on the drives. They spin and lights come on, but no worky. No music, games or software or dvds.

By the way I use an external fw burner for burnin stuff.

Gen Ben is correct. Forget the CD. Just enter the serial and let it download. I bought Dark Messiah last year and put in the CD and waited a while, while it downloaded the game from Valve...go figure!

I pretty much download all of my software. With high speed its pretty easy.

It would be pretty cool to have a tower with no open slots, all slick. Hmmm, I'll try that, since they don't work anyway.

If you've recently installed a CD burning program like Nero, you might wanna restore back to before you installed it.

Try getting a new PATA cable for your Drives. Sounds like there might be a connection issue there. May even be on the MOBO, but I'd try a new cable first. They shouldn't be anymore than ~$5
