Got a new toy delivered today, I need to get it unpacked and setup, might reinstall the OS to remove all the crapware that likely will be loaded on it.
Dont be a hater but I picked up a new Dell.....I know, I know, they usually dont make great gaming boxes unless you get an Alienware and then your paying far too much for the flashing lights and funky case and such.
Dell recently released the XPS8900 in a special edition, what differs the special edition from the "regular" edition is that they actually will put a good video card in it. Normally they dont put in much of a power supply so the typical high end card they would offer would have to work in a box with a 300 - 350w power supply, the special editions are an exception and you can get them with GTX960's, GTX970's and even a GTX980 (No Ti though).
So, the specs of the new box are as follows .
I7-6700K
16GB of DDR4 ram (I may take it up to 32, we shall see)
GTX 980 Video Card
512GB M.2 SSD
2TB 7200 RPM Hard Drive
Blu-Ray/DVD burner
7.1 Sound (dont know if its good or crap, we shall see)
802.11 AC Nic (wireless in a desktop baffles me, at least its a M.2 card which I can use elsewhere)
Hmmm, thats the highlights of the box. Prices are in Canadian Dollars and the exchange rate sucks so it may not sound like a good deal in US funds but in Canadian Money I couldnt build a box for the price Dell was selling it. Just the CPU and Video Card would set me back about $1200 and I got it all, after discounts, rebates and so on for about $1500.
No, I didnt need this box, it wont make Minecraft feel any faster but I am a sucker for a deal and this box should keep me happy for 5 years if it holds up.
