TF2 console/3DX issue
For some reason using console has become really tough as something seems to be going on in the background. It seems like Direct 3DX is pinging something and checking how long it takes to get an occurance. It does it every second and fills my console so that I can't find the information I need when I check the console. I tried to copy and paste the exact text, but I can't seem to copy from console. Any ideas?

Re: TF2 console/3DX issue
I get something similar on occasion where my console will suddenly spam full of red error messages at a blinding rate, without any affect on gameplay, scrolling everything off screen. It doesn't usually last for more than 2-5 seconds though. Is yours just continuous?

Sadly it is. Never had this before, but now the entire time I play it does this.

"Direct3D query9:Get Data(): Occlusion query flush took X.xx ms"
This is the message I see constantly scroll in console.

Re: TF2 console/3DX issue
Occlusion may be referring to ambient occlusion which I think is when two world objects cast shadows on one another, it's soft raytracing but I don't really understand all that. You may be able to play with this setting by toying with the Shadows setting or Shaders quality in the video settings. It might not do anything but it's worth a shot.
A few years ago I had a dumpster PC and had to do all sorts of things to get TF2 to run at a decent framerate. When I finally upgraded the PC my configs were all completely broken from all the FPS hacks and I didn't remember every command. The solution was to reset TF2:
1 - Disable sync with the cloud:
Right Click TF2 in your Library, click the Updates tab and uncheck Enable Steam Cloud sync
2 - Delete everything, all local files.
Yea I know you're going to have to redownload them...
3 - Reinstall and run the game (keeping sync off)
4 - Once you're happy that it's unbroken re-enable sync and it will prompt you to use the "old" settings or to have your new setting override the cloud. Override/update and you're all reset.
Granted this stinks bc you have to re-download the client but when all else fails this will usually kill any config bugs you have.

YNWA, you're on OS X correct? I see this at times as well but have never taken the time to track it down. It seems to get worse or better with random TF2 updates. I've always figured it was some Windows specific thing not working right on a Mac.

Re: TF2 console/3DX issue
I am on OSX. Never seen it happen before and the last 2 updates havent fixed it (not that that would be unusual for a Mac...)
