If anyone could help me it would be much appreciated!!

On the Nero main menu, look at the top. It usually shows a default "CD" format, and when you select to burn a disk, it will only allow file sizes to fill a CD, not a DVD. Click on the CD and it will allow to select CD, CD/DVD or DVD. Change it to DVD. Now the menu will as you for what type of recording you want to make.
You need to be more specific as to what your trying to do.
I burned tons of movies to DVD using Nero, so ask away.

Use nero. Can get it at
www.filehippo.com
If you're trying to backup a movie then you can use dvd shrink to back it up. Then use DVD decrypter or nero to burn it to another dvd.
Some movies on dvd actually exceed the size of a dvd. So, you may need dvd shrink to remove some parts you don't need. If you find that a backup of a dvd exceeds the file size when trying to burn it then use dvd shrink and click "re-author". And select the parts of the dvd you want to backup (ie skip the extras and such).
You can get nero, dvd shrink and dvd decrypter at filehippo.com

First, what kind of file are you trying to convert? What do you want to convert to? Are you wanting to edit the video file?
