TV6 Issue: Muted Player Calls, Voice Commands, say/teamsay

Domer requested I make a thread for this known issue:

Several players are having a problem using voice commands, calling for medic or even typing team or general chat messages on TV6 DUSTBOWL

I have used 2 systems, Windows 7 x64 at home and Linux Mint elsewhere and am continuing to have the problem.

I was told that restarting steam would resolve it, it did not. Reinstalling TF2 did not but I did re-include my player scripts and custom hud but I wouldn't think it would do anything. Here's everything I think would be relavent:

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz
Package Socket 1155 LGA (0x1)
Core Speed 3392.8 MHz
Chipset: Q65
Memory: DDR3 16gig 665.5MHz xFSB Multi.
Video: AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series

Troubleshooting:
- Restarted TF2
- Restarted Steam
- Restarted System
- Deleted Local Cache, re-installed/downloaded TF2

I have been having another issue every time I close TF2 it "crashes" causing a general system error (image : http://i.imgur.com/WwQGZS2.png)
Details of crash:
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BEX
Application Name: hl2.exe
Application Version: 0.0.0.0
Application Timestamp: 51b8eb26
Fault Module Name: icudt.dll
Fault Module Version: 4.6.0.0
Fault Module Timestamp: 4edd32c8
Exception Offset: 004ecce9
Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Data: 00000008
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1
Locale ID: 1033
Additional Information 1: 0a9e
Additional Information 2: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789
Additional Information 3: 0a9e
Additional Information 4: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789

No help there either it would seem.

Considering this is only happening to a few people and most seem to resolve it with a restart there's something wrong with my (and a couple of other people's) configuration.

If you had this issue and found resolution please help :D

Thanks in advance!!

Does it affect voice chat?

It doesn't for me. I recall discussing this issue over voice, with other players, while it was occurring. They were saying they had also experienced this problem, and to restart TF2.

Restarting TF2 didn't work for me, but restating Steam did.

No it does not, if you're having this general consensus is restarting resolves it. For some people it is not. Will keep posting with any other solutions.

Sometimes multiple restarts or reconnects are needed. I have had the problem 3 times and multiple reconnects solved the first, while the second and third were solved by restarting TF2.

Oh hey. I meant to post this about a week ago.

I was having this issue and I thought "Hmm, I wonder if it's some connection problem between steam and tv6..." so I used the heartbeat command. I was suddenly able to call for medic and type in chat again.

Long story short -> i fixed the problem. Open your console with ~ and type "heartbeat" and press enter. Hopefully this works for you, too.

Just heard from armn that he is having this issue.

So "heartbeat" in console and restarting are the best solutions people have found?

I was having this issue not too long ago. Heartbeat and retry did not fix anything.

I encountered this problem this morning.

-heartbeat didn't help.
-Restarted TF2 and that didn't help.
-Restarted Steam twice and that didn't help.
-Restarting PC fixed it (although it could have just been the third restart of Steam that fixed it too)

Thanks, Solton, for directing me to this thread!
