PC Cleaning Reminder

Hey folks, just consider this a friendly reminder to clean your PC! No, I don't mean download the latest, greatest malwa-- I mean free online PC cleaner TM, I mean physically clean it. Open your case up, get out the compressed air can, and throughoughly clean your PCs innards.

I just finished spending about an hour cleaning mine, and even though I do it fairly regularly (every 6 months or so), I'm surprised every time how much dust builds up in there. Especially with warmer weather heading the way of many villuns, you don't want to risk hardware failure due to overheating.

I cleaned out my laptop's fan area not long ago. The difference in fan noise and computer temperature afterward was astounding.

I have an old desktop computer that I used to use as a space heater due to how clogged the fans were. It could raise the temp in my house by ~5 degrees while turned on. No kidding. It still heats up now, but with the vents cleared, it heats up a lot less.

My brother's old laptop once had an issue with overheating, wherein it would shut down while performing seemingly mundane tasks due to high temperatures. Upon opening it up, he removed a SOLID BRICK of dust ~1cm thick from the vent area. It worked fine afterward.

Cleaning your machine is indeed important. Don't wait until it's too late!

OMG, this is so funny. My system froze (again) last night while playing the expert lvl on MvM. Took off the side panel on the tower and BAM, dust! Why didn't you tell me this a week ago Domer?

Yeah just cleaned mine the other day. Quite a bit of dust was present. Cleaning out the video card is always the worst part as it is very narrow and entirely encased.

My case has excellent dust filters that keep everything nice and clean. I just clean the filters every three months (takes less than 5 minutes).
