I have a surge protector. After power surges, my computer will look like its off, but the light is still on and it gets really loud. This has happened several times since I've had it and the only way to fix it is to cut off power from it. (Is this normal?)
Yesterday, I got home and my computer was doing this, so I reset my power strip. My computer wanted to do startup repair when I turned it back on. I started windows normally and noticed my Internet was out. I reset my dsl modem and all the lights on it (dsl, power, ethernet, etc.) were on and not blinking or anything. My Internet still didn't work. I reset it again and it did the same thing. Is it possible my surge protector failed and messed up my modem?
If you know anything or have any questions, please respond. This is probably a lost cause, but I figured I had nothing to lose by asking.

A surge could have come through the pots line, if that wasn't surge protected.

Re: DSL modem problems (moved)
This can happen when a power surge gets past your power supply. The motherboard doesn't know how to properly react. A proper UPS can help alleviate the issue.
