so bout a week ago my pc decided it no longer wants to have a working cd drive i have tried the microsoft troubleshooting to which it decides it need to reinstall the driver so i click ok it starts and then fails i tried google search an all i can find is websites that want me to download a program that scans my pc tells me there are drivers that need updating but i have to buy and register the program for it to do them

I could be hardware problem. But yet, it could be a software problem. Can you give some system specs?

Go to the website of the manufacturer of your CD drive or your computer (preferably the CD drive).
Check their download section, and grab the latest drivers there.

If this works: yay!
If this fails: be prepared to buy a new drive, fortunately they're only like $10-$15 these days and easy to install.

dunno how to get the specs of it sorry alls i know is that its made by lg ive tried there website for drivers and such but nothing seems to work so looks like i need a new one

Anywho, yeah.. drives are really cheap. I remember back around 2002 when a DVD burner was something "newer" and expensive.
