Recommend Me a Laptop Cooling Pad

Post by Supreveio » Fri Aug 19, 2011 10:11 am

As you might know, I've had some problems with a few games, like Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress, where the game would become choppy and unplayable.

I've discovered that the reason for this was my laptop overheating. So, those of you with laptops, recommend me a good cooling pad.

Preferably one that fits a 17" laptop.

This is what my old roommate used whenever his laptop got hot:

When I gamed on a laptop, I used this. It worked well and all you need is a free USB port. I still have it and it's just laying around if you want it. Just pay the shipping. Hit me up if you are interested.

I use one of these suckers with my Qosmio gaming laptop, and have no troubles at all. It's big and hefty, but it keeps things icy cool.

I currently have this, it works well enough. The nice thing about it is it has a usb slot built in so you don't have to give up a slot to use it.

I'm running every game at max.
There are two graphics cards, an Intel and Nvidia. It switches to the Nvidia when it needs it, such as games, 3DS Max.

Oh and it has a pretty keyboard which everyone seems to like, for some reason...
:eh:

Cons: it's heavy for a 14" but I like the solidity of the laptop. It is also hard on the battery.
Oh and it's expensive for a laptop, but still $1000 cheaper than an equivalent Apple MBP.
Me thinks someone forgot to read the topic line

I picked up one of these for my daughter's rickety old laptop. It works great (and the laptop worked better after I fished out a really large ball of cat hair from the fan).

Alright, everyone, thanks for the suggestions.

I went with Alizée's recommendation, and hopefully it will do the trick.

So I received my cooling pad... And it works great!

One small problem, however. It seems my days without a cooling pad has burnt out something in my laptop, causing it to crash. Repeatedly.

Upon inspection of the exterior of my laptop, I have discovered that... There were no vents on it. At all. I'm surprised my laptop lasted as long as it has.

So, while my laptop technically works...

I've learned some valuable lessons.

1. Laptops pretty much require cooling pads
2. ASUS laptops are horribly designed
3. Never have your laptop inspected by "professionals", get someone who knows what they're doing instead

What model was it? I've heard of Asus having smaller vents, but none? Not so much.

Mine works just great, good airflow and stays nice and cool. (the exhaust is pretty darn hot though)
Small issue with the headphone jack, but doesn't bother me.
