Using a program like Acronis True Image.

you cant just drag and drop. especially if you are using the computer to coppy it, the OS files will be in use and wont transfer over. if it is a western digital hard drive i know you can download a utility from their site to transfer it over. since its xp, symantec partition magic might still work instead of acronis, partition magic isnt made anymore so i think its a freee download. hope that helped. if you need me to clear it up more id be more than happy to help

Dragging and Dropping wont work, just like Tsmitho said.
I prefer to use Paragon tools for backups and imaging.

ya acronis is good. thats what i use at work ( im a computer technician) but it costs money unless you do the trial and then get a bunch of emails. symantec partition magic is free. and so is the western digital utility. i have used both personally and for work. and both work very well. i have copped harddrives over so many times so ask me if you have questions. just coppied my os onto a SSD makes it so much faster

If you are using the Paragon Tools boot cd...
Plug in your original HD to the lowest number SATA port
Plug in the new SATA drive to the next port
Unplug any other drives you might have for the time being (you can plug them back in when you're done)
Boot to the Paragon CD
Select the Easy transfer option (This copies the info from the first drive over to the first empty drive)
This will take some time but it should work.
You could also boot to the Paragon utility and select the first option (forget the name) and then you can actually select which volumes you want to copy and where you want them to go. If you're having troubles booting like you said, you may want to try this option.
Once I get home I can get you more detailed instructions if you need them.

Re: How to Clone the OS partition form a HD to another HD
ALright
I down loaded the Seagate Diskwizard and low and behold it did it
though I did want my Boot disk to be around 200 gig it did let it grow larger to be 74.9 Gig and I tried to change the size it did not happen quite the way I wanted it seemed to not let me make it any larger than that.
I may try it again wipe the drive and try again may be I did some thing wrong.
