So I have the Logitech X-540 speakers which my PC is currently connected to. No problem there, it works great, big sound, niceness all around. http://techgage.com/article/logitech_x-540_51_speakers
Issue: My PC Monitor is also my HDTV which I have my 360 hooked up to as well. Currently my 360 is hooked up to the TV via HDMI. I'd like to somehow connect them to my speakers as well. Is this possible? The only thing I could find is:

But, I'm not quite sure that will work/that is my only option. I know the 360 Elite I have has an optical out, is there a way to get a converter/switch or something to hook it up to the speakers?
Ideas? I havent been able to find anything online that is definitive.

The first article you links includes the following note:
The picture and note indicates there's a component audio dongle that came with your speakers, for doing exactly what you want. The 360 hooks up easily to the X-540 with the provided component audio cable. This allowed me to play CoD II on my Dell 2407 LCD as well as use the audio of the X-540 to hear the action.

My question then is, will I still be getting HD Video to the monitor/TV? And also, how would I be able to switch inputs from the 360 to the PC when I switch uses? (I'm computer illiterate, mainly, so bear with me!)

No prob
You should still be getting appropriate video to the monitor, as far as I can tell. If you only plug in the red and white cables on each end, as shown in the pic, you'll only divert the audio signal. Video is carried on the yellow cable, so if you don't plug that in, it shouldn't alter the video at all.
When you want to switch back to using the PC audio feed, simply swap out the plug(s) feeding audio from your 360, and plug in the output on your PC. That will change the source appropriately.

Gotcha! So yellow cable is the same quality as HDMI then? No worries there?

If you're using component, it should get an HD feed.
It's just a visual check to see whether or not that's the case. If it's not HD quality you should be able to tell pretty easily that it's different from what you saw over HDMI.
