I think I have figured out a solution for the problem that appears to be a hard drive grind while playing tf2.
Some players including myself will hang with a black screen and stuttering sound for awhile, you may recover, you may not, you might crash to your desktop.
All appear to be the same issue on Windows 7, Vista and XP.
Its actually a video driver issue, and not a hard drive busy issue.
Here is a solution I came up with and haven't crashed or stuttered since.
I know its a roll back in drivers but they appear to be the ones that actually work the best so bear with it.
First download the driver that matches your OS, if you have Windows 7 download the Vista drivers it will actually come up Windows 7 when it installs it.
Windows XP http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_182.50_whql.html
Windows Vista/Windows 7 http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x ... _whql.html
Reboot in safe mode, this is done by pressing F8 during the boot cycle.
If you have Windows 7 you will also need to select F8 to choose advanced start up to see the "Safe mode" option.
Once your computer has booted in safe mode uninstall the Nvidia Video Drivers.
Now reboot into safe mode again and install the 182.5 drivers you downloaded.
Now reboot into regular mode and test it out.
This seemed to fix everything for me on 2 machines so I thought I would share with the community.
