Crazy New Case

Post by Araris » Wed Apr 21, 2010 12:20 am

As a few of you know, I've been very unhappy with my CoolerMaster Stacker 830 when it comes to temperatures. At 100% fan speed Bad Company 2 would run 77-85C on average. So last week I decided to buy a "different" type of case and here's the result.

Results, I just tested it out and at 70% fan speed Bad Company 2 hits 71C max (measured using EVGA Precision).
It's a very interesting case and if any of you are lucrative enough it's a very nice investment.

that's massive.... but cool i guess... So how does it actually reduce the temp?

A normal video card sits horizontally in a case, meaning the GPU core is facing downwards. In that scenario the heat simply warms up the heatsink and because heat rises it hits the card again and goes up.
It's more prevalent in multigpu systems where the bottom card will then heat up the card above it which in turn heats up the cpu heatsink and then the PSU (the heat chain reaction). By sitting vertically (notice how all the ports are on top) heat becomes a non issue as it simply rises out the top without affecting any other components.

I like it.

I have a case that is flipped over and that is a bit better but that is the Max plus it looks easier to get to all the ports too.

What is that case were did you get it and How much was it>>>??????

I like it, I'm still on my Antec QuietCool from like 5 years ago, need to get a new one and while I might not be willing to spend that change, I like the idea of changing the orientation of everything like that - wonder if anyone else is doing something similar?

It's a Silverstone Raven RV02, you can get it on Newegg for about $170ish.

Hmm. . . I just checked Newegg and they didn't have it at all, heck they weren't carrying any SilverStone cases.

I did find it on Amazon:

Yeah, I see now, they have an entry page into Cases that doens't scream out there's a ton more if you click Computer Cases again, not used to that sort of thing from Newegg!

But, stilll, $20 cheaper at Amazon is not bad!

I still stand by my Thermaltake Armor. Air cooled, liquid cooled, either way, I find that it does well.

However, I do see where you are coming from. When I removed my 2nd 8800 Ultra two years ago, the temp in my case went down like 15C.
