need some help for new PC

Post by Rigges » Fri Mar 12, 2010 12:08 pm

Wife wants a new PC for her self I tell her I can build a better on for the cost of buying one off the shelf.

I actually figure I can build a new gaming PC for me and let her use this one as she all ready has all her games loaded on it OMG al the $9.00 to $25.00 one time play games you can believe are on this things HD now arrrrge

so what can we put together that would be better than this PC but not cost a lot of $

here is what I have in this PC most of it is out dated Ie 2 years old++

CPU Type DualCore AMD Athlon 64 X2 Black Edition, 2600 MHz (13 x 200) 5000+
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 (2 PCI, 3 PCI-E x1, 2 PCI-E x16, 4 DDR2 DIMM, Audio, Gigabit LAN, IEEE-1394)
DIMM1& 2 are: Corsair XMS2 CM2X1024-6400C4 1 GB DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM (5-5-5-18 @ 400 MHz) (4-4-4-13 @ 270 MHz)
Video Adapter ATI Radeon HD 4870 (512 MB)
Monitor IC Power CM2019 [19" LCD] (7602TI001464)
Disk Drive ST375033 0AS SCSI Disk Device (750 GB, 7200 RPM, SATA-II)
Optical Drive ASUS DRW-2014L1T SCSI CdRom Device (DVD+R9:8x, DVD-R9:8x, DVD+RW:20x/8x, DVD-RW:20x/6x, DVD-RAM:14x, DVD-ROM:16x, CD:48x/32x/48x DVD+RW/DVD-RW/DVD-RAM)
Mouse Logitech HID-compliant G5 Laser Mouse
Oh an the CPU cooler on this is one of those Butterfly Cooler heat sink/Pipe with fan thingys

I will probably move the G5 mouse to the new PC So what can I do for a much better unit and keep my cost way down and should I go ahead and go with that new windows7 Pro??

intel or AMD ???

Navidia or ATI??

This is a need for complete PC monitor and keyboard and Mouse and OS Case.

if it happens it will be after next Thursday I am guessing

OH last thing

For this current PC it is on Windows XP pro does anyone have a unused Key for XP pro??? I have a problem.

thank you for your help I am out looking too soo we shall see.

As much of a Intel/nVidia fan I am. If you need a new computer now. buy AMD and ATI.
Friends made are never forgotten. Even if we grow apart or move on from this life, the fun times we spent together was all worth it.

ATi is currently the best (which is why they're allowed to charge astronomical prices for their cards, $700 for a 5970 are you kidding me? Even the 295 wasn't that expensive).

AMD is the cheapest currently with good performance. If you don't have a small budget Intel will be better.

For about $1,000 I built my PC this past xmas..

got the intel I5 overclocked and the ATI 5850 (overclocked when needed)... great combination except the ATI drivers are a little messy!

They run great except the fan software for the 5850 is a bit annoying.... for newer games, I have to increase the fan speed manually or it will over heat. I wish it would recognize it's overheating but for some reason it's stubborn.

So maybe i will just do an upgrade of my PC later on you know change out the MB and CPU and add a Blue Ray or not?

Well thank you all any way for the help on this.

Ya your computer sounds pretty decent. A quick farily cheap upgrade would probably be to upgrade to a quad core phenom instead of a dual core. The price has gone down alot and it would probablyake it alot faster. Idk what games you play but 5870 is probably good enough for what's out there now. It just doesn't have support for dx11 :( the ram could be faster speed but then you would need different ram and mobo probably. Sounds like a pretty decent setup you have tho
