MP3 player got wet, now doesn't work!

Post by bigfoot_hunter » Sun May 03, 2009 2:24 pm

I was riding my bike to the bar friday night when a sudden rainstorm cought me unaware. I had my me Zen vision m in the front pocket of my hoody when it filled up with water and blink it quit working. So I took it apart and carefully dried all the parts and put it back together. Guess what, nothing.
Well I guess its dead.
Question: It has a 30g hardrive. Is this is what is called a 2.5" drive? Can I buy an external enclosure and recover my data? It doesn't look like the drive got wet, judging by the stains it seems to be mostly the mobo.
Erf, I can't afford a new mp3 player now, and am pretty irked about the whole thing. Oh well.

Chances are very high that it is a 2.5" drive.
May I ask why you don't have that music backed up on a PC somewhere?

If you have no other way, then it might be worth the price to get an enclosure. If the drive is SATA and you PC has those connections, you should be able to plug it right in.

It's probably a 1.8" HD. You'll probably have to get an enclosure to fit a 1.8" HD, and find some software that'll read whatever filesystem is on it.

This might help point you in the right direction.

Yep, thanks.
Last week I cleaned out my hard drive to do some video editing. You guessed it, my backup music, about 20g. Pretty stupid. I was going to re back it up later, but you never know when disaster will strike!
It looks like a 1.8 drive and will see if I can save it.
Thanx.

odd but related story, I had forgotten my ipod in my pocket when I was doing the laundry, my nano went for a full cycle of washing and drying. It is still working just fine.

perhaps you should wait before turning it on again, wait a long time.
