I think I am also going to do this with my spare pc :)

I have a question...

If you are hosting a FTP server, Can you let people download files through their internet browser like this

ftp://70.78.xx.xxx/files/haxor.avi

and then it would just open in their internet browser to download?

Or does the person receiving the file need a FTP program?

I've seen, and used, FTP via a web browser before. I just don't know how to set one up.

Gen.Ben

IE is a FTP client, so people can use it download files by specifying ftp:// instead of http:// (Firefox works too).

If you setup security correctly then people will have to login via a login box that pops up when they enter the site; however, you should be able to set it up for guest access, which will allow downloads only. Then no one would be prompted for login.

Beer, fyi... I could upload to the folder (as you've seen :)), but I couldn't see anything in the directory. It acted like a drop box.

Well guys, the ftp seems to be running pretty smooth. Anyone reading this post is more than welcome to use it. Just dont abuse it... no huge movie files or porn.

The up/down bandwidth seems to be mediocre, its not bad.

ftp://68.7.214.90

You can upload files to it, and use em just like normal url links here in the forums.

enjoy! forum points gladly accepted :ik:
