Re: Custom Computers
Is yours the 512MB, Ben?
I've got the x1600 pro 512MB. It runs everything I play at the top settings with anti-aliasing, HDR and all the bells and whistles without any problem.

Nope, I got the 256MB card. It runs source at 1280x800 full detail everything and i get an average of 100fps, I used to be running at 1680x1050 with an average of 50fps... The x1300 pro is a great card.

Hmmmmmm!!
Im a little bit skeptical about your statement Gen Ben!!!!
The 1300pro a not a high end video card!!! In fact, it is less powerful then the 6600gt, which is quite an old card!!! I know, i had one...! I changed it 2 years ago for a x800xt-pe!!
For that reason, i have some doubt that you can acheive 100fps with full details on. Even with HDR off, i would still be skeptical!!!
HL2 (DoD:source) is a very demanding game for a system!!! Look at any HL2 benchmark that is using a x1300 pro and youll see that they are all very far to reach 100 FPS!!!
I'll be curious to know the complete spec of your computer!!!
I dont know what is your budget sexy canadian, but I think that you can choose a better card! I think ill go with llama beans suggestion. Seems a better choice!!!

To tell you the truth... 100fps is a simple feat for the x1300 pro... I can easily achieve it with full details on.
My full specs are:
I have a Intel Core 2 Duo (clocked at 2.19 GHz per core)
I have two 512mb(1GB) Sticks of DDR2 Ram
ATI Raedon x1300 Pro
When I get home... I can make a video of me easily getting 100FPS on my x1300 pro... If you dont believe me..

UPDATE: As you can see... the x1300 Pro is not a low end card... It certainly isn't the cream of the crop... But if all you will be doing is playing source... the x1300 Pro will defiantly be more then enough power... And you can save a couple of bucks too!
Here in this video you can see me getting an average of around 100 FPS, somtimes getting 180 FPS..
http://useruploads.mythica.org/view/fps.wmv
See the X1300 pro isn't bad... not bad at all..

Re: Custom Computers
Part of that is your connection I would imagine. Your ping is super low, what kind of connection do you have, 6mb?
I have a Radeon 9550, 256mb card that was ok a few years back when I wanted to play HL2, but I get 30fps on DoD:S and around 40-50 on CS. If I upgraded my card could I expect to see better performance? I have a 3mb connection and always thought that was slowing me down because sometimes my choke and loss packets shoot up.

I have "Up to 5.0 Mb"
The reason my ping was so low is because I was playing on a vancouver server... location of it is pretty close to me.
So I hopped on the ville... Still get nearly the same results....

the x1300 is a bad card, you might be running at low settings/dx setting/resolution to get that fps. but anyway here's twice the card for $40 less:

Is that a good manufacturer, Mike? Don't know anything about 'em.

Why the bloody hell is everyone hating on the x1300 Pro. I have all the settings on max, and my res is at 1280x800 and I get a constant 80-120 FPS!
And by the way... I have never heard of EVGA... I would rather get a ATI x1300 Pro then somthing made by a company I have never heard of.

evga is one of the best companies for nvidia.
You're getting that fps because you have your resolution set low.
Low?! Most people I know are running at 800x600. Why would I need to run any higher than 1280x800 if you cannot notice the difference unless looking one inch away from your monitor?
Squidly said the x1300 Pro could not achieve 100 FPS. I proved it could. He never stated ANYTHING about resolution.
Just leave it at that.

says anyone who knows what they're talking about. I've used them in numerous builds, never had a problem. If you dont beleive me, they're at the top of the top brands list in the video cards section of newegg and almost half of the nvidia cards on the best sellers list are evga.

You must have bad eyes then. When people talk about fps they mean with good settings and resolution. Thats a massive waste of your monitor. Also, most people don't run at 800x600.

I've been using that EVGA 7600GT for over a year now. So far it's been great, very stable and very fast compared to the ATI. I was having many problems with my ATI cards. The power connectors that plug into the mobo kept frying. I had to pull the cable and clean the burn spot where it arced every time I fired it up. The drivers were unstable and buggy, difficult to install and upgrade. The catalyst multimedia center is built on bloody lame .NET and I want to avoid M$ as much as possible. I bought a top of the line $400 AIW that went kaput, the 3d rendering chip rendered garbage after the warranty expired, of course. I trashed it. After that I went NVida and never looked back. I'm glad.
