Re: I want one badass headset
I use a plantronics gamecom closed-ear headset, super comfy and to my ears decent sound and decent mike.
Unfortunately it only cost me $25 on Amazon, perhaps you could buy it at Frys for $60 if you want to spend more?
Headsets and audio equipment are so hugely based on personal preference, I'd say your best bet is to buy anything and just keep the box, better yet buy 5 headsets and test them all, then return the ones you don't like.

Here's an awesome demo of what can be accomplished with a stereo headset with good recording. Put on your headphones and see how accurately sound can be re created in your head. You don't need something to fake surround sound you brain can do it all for you!.

Re: I want one badass headset
This is the sole reason why I have not bought this headset. It is also wireless. The company also has like 8 different variations that I am struggling to tell the difference. I'm currently getting in touch with people who own them to see what's up. The only reason why I'm looking at them is because my friend is the writer for the gaming (pc) section of the UCSD newspaper and he is seeing a lot of people using them.Mortis462 wrote: Expensive crapy "For Gaming" headset" and you have landed on the MLG gaming headset of choice. To me this just screams gimmick
(we'll writing this one got in contact with me. Seems all their different version are just color/style. So I company that would charge more for a headset with a game or MLG color scheme is just selling out. I have crossed these off)
That digital barbershop was interesting and I often find myself doing similar in-game. With my current ~$60 stereo headset in many games, I can judge distance between left and right but can't tell whether up, behind, in-front, or below. I had the same trouble during that video and it felt like they were always behind, never in front or cutting hair on top.
So now I guess I'm back to stereo or surround.
Also, their demo video for astro shows two guys on the xbox 360 playing CoD while wearing gaming glasses. So yeah, screw that company.
Looks like I will be going with a stereo headset by Sennheiser. Now just to figure out which one to get.

Stereo. You only have at most 2 ears.

since you are playing games and not watching movies...
you have control over which way your character is facing so having a straight up stereo is going to be best.

Word of advice about sennheiser, don't actually order from them unless you want to wait six weeks for it to be shipped. Other distributors that carry their gear are the same price.

I do it all the time. I come from a real thrifty family and now in my adult years I always find myself debating purchases for weeks.Mortis462 wrote:Good choice!BigBiker05 wrote:I'm getting way too worked up over this. Sold.Stevo wrote:The blue one.

I feel y'alls pain, I'm horrible about agonizing over purchases until I finally pull the trigger and then feel stupid for not buying whatever it was sooner.BigBiker05 wrote:I do it all the time.
