Re: Games Crashing
I have the free avg. And yes, I always keep it up to date. I have done memtest and it passed. Could it be because I am running 64-bit win7 and only have 2GB of RAM and its not enough RAM? Also, I came up with an idea that it might be my internet. I am using road runner cable and when I am on my PS3 online I get connection problems and lag a lot. I also have the PS3 run through an ethernet cable and not the wireless. I also lag on TF2 a lot. Maybe it catches the lag or a connection problem and the game just freezes and closes? I was in the main menu today. I just exited off a server on TF2 and was in the main screen and I went to get a drink and came back and there was the hl2.exe error. So it even crashes from the main menu. Anyone have a clue? I am thinking of reformatting my computer, updating all the drivers, and just putting steam and TF2 on it and see if anything happens.
EDIT: But the game also crashes in single player Left 4 Dead 2 so I don't think it is my cable modem/connection. It also shouldn't just crash or freeze from lag or a connection problem.

I just reformatted. Installed win7- updated it, installed drivers-updated it, installed steam and left4dead2 and it froze in like 4 mins. I am getting very annoyed now.

Are you overclocking your cpu?
If you are, stop it and see if your stability improves.

No. I never overclock anything.
I rebooted today. And I noticed in boot up today that it said- Memory Testing: 2096128K OK(Installed Memory: 2097152K). Is it supposed to read like that or is it saying part of my memory is bad? Because during memtest it passed everything the few times I tested it.
it reinstalled the memory chip set after it tested
not sure you could have a bad or noncompatible memory set
But I can not be sure you will have to test it again and run and see what happens
it is a new install of steam right???
Yeah. Fresh install of win7 and steam

I just sent like my 3rd e-mail Steam Support. They never reply. It would be great if they did.

here's a website that has some good fix suggestions:

I used to have this problem too. I think it was my realtek audio drivers, but I don't really remember.

No. I tried those. It's not just left4dead2. It is all my games. I ordered a new stick of RAM. Should be here in a few days. Hopefully, that is the problem. If not then I don't have a freaking clue what would just cause all my games to crash.
