A few questions about GMod

I know GMod is listed under the retired games, but I wasn't sure if I should post this here or in the section for GMod...

Anyway, I'm having a few problems with it, and I was wondering if anyone could help me out.

First off, some of the items, such as the Pyro's flamethrower won't spawn when I select it in the spawning menu. I'm also having trouble loading the maps from Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 on GMod as well.

And finally, the Hunter ragdoll from L4D keeps spawning with weird, overly shiny shading. Anyone know how to fix these?

Left 4 Dead's compatibility with Garry's Mod is shaky at best. Maps simply don't work for anyone (the working L4D/2 maps you see out there are specially ported), and the shiny textures thing is a known issue. I'm no expert, but I think it has something to do with the newer way L4D handles specular (reflections) on its materials, which the Orange Box engine doesn't understand.

Not sure about the flamethrower thing. There are some props (mostly L4D ones) that simply don't like to spawn, but nothing from TF2 has ever given me that problem.
