New Goodies

Post by Pine » Sun Jan 16, 2011 8:42 pm

Alright so I've figured out that my problems on my computer is that my video card has gone to crap and I need a new one.
My budget is somewhere up to $300.

I talked to Gator and got some suggestions and he said my PSU is not the best and gave me some suggestions.
He said possibly getting this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817139005
Paired with either one of these:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814125348

What do you guys think?

Corsair makes fantastic PSU's I am running the 850watt modular one in my system. If you go the ATI route I would look at the XFX cards, like the one you linked because of their fantastic warranty.

This card would put you right at your max budget but it is another solid option. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130557

This also depends on if you think you would ever want to try out the three monitor system. If so then the ATI's are a much cheaper route to go. You need to 2 Nvidia card to support that and you can at least try it out with a single ATI card.

My $.02

Cheers

FWIW this is his current PSU, whose reviews made me suggest that he consider including a new PSU as part of his budget.

Yeah I think I would also replace it. Your PSU is the heart of your system, and a place where it is easy to skimp on but will lead to troubles down the road.

Antech also makes a quality PSU, here are a couple more links just for fun.

you should be able to afford a good 650+ watt psu and a 6850 or 460 1 gig easily within your budget.

I endorse Gator's PSU suggestion and Mortis' GPU suggestion. That's a winning combination.

According to nvidia's own website, the 460 is better than the 465.

Both are great cards, I linked the 465 because of the rebate. Can't really go wring with either of them, or the ATI for that matter

Also the GTX 560 Ti is set to launch on the 25th, supposedly.

That may exert some downward pressure on prices for already-selling card types.

Just wondering what card and PSU you ended up going with, inquiring minds want to know :?:
