And in advance, pardon about the largeness of the photo.
Anyhow. On Friday the 22nd, I come home from school and my dad is doing some routine re-installing of programs, but he tells me that the pump (boxed in red below, but you cant see it very well) has been running really warm, almost a little scalding to the touch. But he thinks it'll be okay for another hour or so. He plays some Bad Company 2, but punkbuster errors are giving him grief so he decides to reintall the game. While he walks away to eat something, I start smelling something very metallic and slightly sour. I disregard it, and then go over to the computer to see how far the installation is. But the smell gets stronger and i look to the case and I gasp. The pump is smoking! I call for my dad who force shuts-down the computer. It's not until a couple days later and he empties the blue water-cooling liquid (because he has quick release valves that keep most of the liquid in the radiator.), and takes the pump out of the case. It was attached to the bottom of the computer by an adhesive rubber-foam like pad, and he realizes it had been burning a couple holes in it. When he took the pad off after some coaxing and yanking, the burns left a few marks on the metal. But it wasn't permanent as he got it off easily with some rubbing alcohol.
Well, the pump was borked obviously, so he quickly turned on the computer ordered a new one from one of his buddies. Since it was friday, it didn't ship until Monday. So I was basically without any computer but the school computers for a week. That weekend was supposed to be me working on my AP English 12 essay and a project for my Astronomy class, but I had to sit back and groan in agony as I waited for the pump to come in. Thankfully, it did and the assignments are done.
The new one is working like a dream, and everything seems to be working very snappy. So, a crisis averted in my eyes.
