issues with Toshiba DVD player (includes Windows Player)

Post by loka » Sat Apr 17, 2010 3:01 pm

I'm using my dad's laptop for now until mine gets fixed since the motherboard and the video aren't corresponding with each other. I tried watching a DVD and it gave me this error on the Toshiba DVD Player program "Unable to output the video to an external device. Please check the external output setting after ending the application." So I then went to the Windows Player and I received this error "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try updating a driver for your video card." I checked on the ATI website, and there is an update for the card which is not recommended on Toshiba laptops. I'm not sure if I need or want to DL a codec granted this is my dad's laptop, and I don't know what he has in here, but he said he had no issues playing a DVD before. The disc is not a burned copy of a movie. The OS is Vista. If anything I can do please let me know. I like watching movies while I fall asleep, and this laptop is soon to be mine so any help would be appreciated.

The model for the laptop is Toshiba Satellite P305-S8822.

Thanks guys!

EDIT: FIXED. RE-INSTALLED SOUND DRIVER.

The audio driver was blocking a DVD from playing?

Truly, laptops work in mysterious ways!

Yeah I don't know what was the issue. I checked on the Toshiba forums and they mentioned to update the Realtek audio drives, but my laptop doesn't use Realtek. It uses Conexant. So I disabled and uninstalled them and reinstalled the drivers from the Toshiba website, and all seems to be working now. Truly laptops are strange. :)
