Need advice on selling my first computer build

Post by martinezf123 » Wed May 06, 2009 12:37 pm

Hello Villuns
Its been about six months since I've built this computer and now it's time for me to part ways with it. I'm ready to let go of my first build but the one thing I'm not to sure about is how much should I sell it for. I paid about $1200 for the parts when I built it last November. The CPU is overclocked to 3.0GHz. I also have the video card overclocked to 799/1981/1081. Any advice on selling custom built computers would be greatly appreciated as well.

Here are the parts to my computer:
ASUS VW222U Black 22" 2ms(GTG) Widescreen LCD Monitor
Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
BFG Tech GeForce 8800GTS (G92) 512MB 256-bit GDDR3
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz
ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler
OCZ Reaper HPC Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
OCZ StealthXStream OCZ600SXS 600W ATX12V / EPS12V
GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
SAMSUNG Black DVD Burner with LightScribe
Western Digital Caviar 640GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s
Logitech G11 Silver & Black Gaming Keyboard
Logitech G5 USB Laser 2000 dpi Mouse

One of your best bets would be to post on some tech sites like hardocp or anandtech in their for sale forums.

You might be able to sell the whole thing or part by part.

Anyway use ebay as a last resort unless you like getting hugged by fees

Ewwww...

sorry to hear that you have to pawn your rig! :(

I have no idea how much to ask for it, but I would guess that you could get at least 750 for that.

Hmm I didn't even think about tech sites forums. I might try that out if posting on Craigslist falls through. Thanks!

Keep the computer and sell the tv.

Computers plummet in resale value at an alarming rate. TVs do not drop in price as quickly.

If you removed the monitor I wouldn't pay more than $550 for that system, the value of a computer drops extremely fast. Don't think of that estimate as me trying to cheat you out of a deal, I actually think $550 is rather generous for that build. $650 if you threw in the monitor most likely.

It's probably worth somewhere a little above $1200 considering it's slightly used.

Being a used system 6 months old, user O/C'd...

I'd look at around $600. Maybe a hair more because of the monitor.

Thanks to everyone that replied. To be honest I'm a bit shocked at how much the value drops. Because of this I have decided to sell my TV instead. I think its for the best as I would hardly use it, only to watch movies really and there is hardly any good ones out there these days. Anyways thanks again to all those that gave me your input, it was greatly appreciated.

Best of luck on that Martinez, sorry to hear you're having to sell your stuff. Having done it before, myself, I know it's not much fun :-/

That kinda machine was close to top of the line a year ago actually.

But yeah, you should pretty easily get $650-750 with the monitor. You may be able to sucker someone off craigslist or something for $1000, but thats pushing it, plus it takes time, which it appears you may not have.
