Cannot Boot From Device

Post by BETTEH » Sun Jan 04, 2009 11:03 am

Shut er down as usual last night, went to turn it on 5 minutes ago and i see this error, fantastic, after some messing around i discovered the fan behind the HDD wasn't actually doing its job, i plugged it into a different port ont he PSU and it kicked on, put the SATA cable into another opening on the board and still no go. I havent had this western digital more than 2 months, the Seagate i got was DOA from newegg so what the hell could i have done this time to nuke this HDD. If there is no immediate solution i'm assuming i will be needing to purchase a new HDD, in which case i'd like some healthy opinions because i'm not thrilled right now, spent a great portion of my money when i refinanced my car and bought up my college books, so it'll be a week or two before i can get a new one.

The capacities of computer storage devices are typically advertised using their SI standard values, but the capacities reported by software operating systems uses the binary values.

Also, you lose some space to formatting.

Dont forget about all the serious issues with seagate drives, chances are your drive was good but went south..

The Bios upgrade released last week may fix some but apparently has caused a ton of 500s to be tanked too.

Oh, and now we know why for Jan 1 2009 Seagate dropped their drive warranties from 5 years to 3 years.......

These days I have little faith in any drive manufacturer, its a tossup IMHO as to whos drives will continue to run...
