crippling lag issues

Post by Cpt. Winky » Tue Jan 13, 2009 8:08 pm

so recently (since about late november) i have been having serious lag on all\most tf2 servers, and sadly the worst ones are theVille. i can't play very much without lagging like crazy, but the wierd part is that my ping says its only about 125, which is its usual ping. I enabled the little FPS and Ping counter in console so i can check it in game, and the "OUT:" stays about 120 but the "IN:" fluctuates from 65-4000 and averages about a 350, ie unplayable at best. I really like playing on teh ville, but because of this, i have been spending less and less time on tf2, purely because I cant play it even somewhat decently and it is too frustrating to play with that bad of lag. Its worst on the Warpath server.

I am open to suggestions as to how to fix this, because i really wanna start playing with you guys again.

Winky doesn't use Anti-Virus, neither do I. Although I don't on the fact that I reformat once a month. Stop your torrenting program Winky....I know you're running it.

It must be your ISP.
You're closer to the servers than I ever would be.

Get HLSW and run the little Traceroute tool on it and find out where it is taking a big hop.

It's probably not your machine, unless you are running multiple Internet using progs...

well the wierd thing is that I dont get lag in CSS and my internet isnt slow, but TF2 sucks for some reason. I will check on the anti virus, and I never run my torrenting program when I play, so i will try the other things.

I've been having similar issues recently as well. But not quite as bad. I've noticed the in field shooting up when it laggs for me as well. But mine only goes up to maybe 2000. So I get some really bad stuttering. For me it seems to be the worst on Valve maps. Well is usually to worst particularly going in and out of the doors. Warpath actually doesn't do it much unless a lot of people are around. I've recently formatted and that didn't help. I've also turned all my setting down, re-installed video and audio drivers. But none of it has seemed to help.

This seems to be a trend, because I am having the exact same problems. It's mostly when there is a lot of activity and people around shooting, etc. I have also reformatted and dropped all of my settings down, nothing has fixed the jittery/laggyness.

Also, I can play L4D and INS/other games completely fine.

Weird for all of you to have that issue. I hadn't played TF2 in 2 months but because of this topic I joined last night and I didn't see any jittery/laggyness at all.
