What's a good ad blocker that's a free download?
Been having problems the last couple weeks with ad servers expecailly adrevolver spamming my browser and crashing it.
Ad blocker
Re: Ad blocker
Firefox has a popup blocker, sometimes 1 or 2 get through, but you rarely see any. What browser do you use? The dreaded IE I suppose? Other than that, I haven't used a blocker since firefox, maybe a google of free popup blockers may provide more insight.

Re: Ad blocker
i use Adblock Plus for that job. It wipes almost all of the ads out. The rest you can be done by your self, by adding quite easily rules for specific ads.
well the add on is for Firefox

I have a mix of programs that I use, depending what's up. As SU said, sounds like you could use a visit from Spybot S&D. I'd back that up with a scan from Lavasoft's AdAware and Webroot Spy Sweeper as well - they all have free versions, and all catch slightly different things sometimes.
If you're super comfortable with computers and know how to read your system's command lines, Hijack This! is one of my favorites. Gotta be careful with it though, it'll nuke your system as soon as look at you, if you tell it to remove the wrong thing.

Re: Ad blocker
adblock plus and then NoScript (plus the avg linkchecker) are what I use as addons for firefox.

Autoruns from Sysinternals is a little more user friendly, but still dangerous. Most simple adware and spyware can be removed with it. Trojans can be seen, but usually require a bit more work to remove.
As far as automated scanners go, I'd recommend Malware Bytes Anti-malware.
And for Adblock, make sure you get a filterset. I recommend filterset G. It does all the hard work for you.
