Ring around the collar

Post by Clay Pigeon » Thu Sep 20, 2012 6:24 pm

I've got some white dress shirts that are getting pretty ringed around the collar, and normal washing isn't fixing it. What should I do?

The marks are usually skin and grease from the body.

My wife is an utter clean freak and extremely house proud. She even irons our underpants.
She complains that machines never get as hot as they used to.
On machines in the UK, there is a setting which heats the water to near boiling point and these remove most stains.
I haven't seen anything like that here...maybe on the older tubs but everything is geared to eco/lower temps these days.

You could try a big pot of hot water and bring it up to boil, add detergent, pop in the shirt, let it sit and see if that works.
Then rinse in the machine.

Or bleach although it tends to be very harsh.

I found "Spray and Wash" or "Shout" works real well, but you have to follow the directions to a "T". Trust me on that one, nothing like ruining your Class A dress shirt just before inspection. :wall:
