Mumble or Teamspeak

Post by Dog » Sun Dec 13, 2009 2:34 pm

If we were to set up a voice server, for TheVille, should we use Mumble/Murmur or Teamspeak (version 3 coming out this month).

Vent is what we have used in the past but they only allow 8 clients to connect...

Both TS and Mumble have similar specs but we'd just like to know what is your preference...

I currently have a Teamspeak server, and I haven't had any issues with it. Latency is about what you'd expect with any VoIP client-server product, but no major problems or issues that I've found in my almost a year worth of using it.

TeamSpeak, only because I have always used it. The one time I tried Mumbles, it wasn't immediately apparent how to use it so I gave up.

I know Teamspeak. Use it with my bros in L4D2 all the time.

Never heard of Mumbles.

So I vote Teamspeak.

I use both, so I'm fine with either.

is it possible to have one button to talk to your team, and one button to talk to everyone?

this is rly good because i can always say to my oponent "good shot" instead of typing it (yeah im somewhat lazy)

Yep.
Ordinary team chat would be team chat while the voice server would be team chat. We would have a room set up for each server.

Teamspeak, because it is the one that I have heard of. But I most likely wouldn't use it.
Friends made are never forgotten. Even if we grow apart or move on from this life, the fun times we spent together was all worth it.

Mumble isn't that hard to setup and I think the quality is better than teamspeak (OWMYEARS) but I honestly haven't used it as much to really test it out. I vote mumble, but is there a way we can do a try-before-we-choose option?

The free version of the Vent server allows up to 8 clients.

If you want more, you have to buy a block of 1000 slots, which is what the Game Hosting companies do. This is why they sweeten deals with a 24 slot vent server.

Vent is not even being considered because of that.

Mumble!

I've used Vent, mumble, teamspeak and at one point gamescom (they were giving away free server and none of my friends could afford one so we decided to get it.

I can tell you mumble is the best once you get it to work due to better voice quality and the overlay which lets you see who's talking while in-game.

Teamspeak does have a new version coming out within the month that claims to improve many things, including sound quality.
