Banned Cheaters Question

Post by CastleDoctrine » Fri Jan 09, 2009 10:46 am

During my time with online gaming, I've come across several cheaters that I've run demos on, and they were subsequently banned from other servers.

All of these servers were VAC secured, as are The Ville's. How does this unified ban system work? Is it necessary to resubmit cheaters with each gaming community, or are we covered?

Thank you.

If a player is VAC banned then the ban only effects the game on the account for all VAC protected servers.
If a admin bans a SteamID on a server the player with the SteamID will not be able to connect to the server again. VAC is not affected by.

There is no way of submitting bans to VAC. The VAC system bans automatically.

Here at TheVille we use SourceBans, all the game servers that run a source game are "connected" together. So if you get banned on one of our servers, you are automatically banned on all others too, no matter what server with a source game you want to join.

Source games are TF2, DoD:S, PVKII, ZP:S, INS, L4D

I hope I explained everything correctly, if not please feel free to correct me :D

I should mention that VALVe separate HL1 bans from Source bans. If you have been banned in CS1.6, for example, you will not be banned in CSS, as a result.

A certain Stevo.TVR wrote a neat little plugin that joins the two systems together....

Also, VAC bans are delayed to make it harder to figure out what it detects. People who are flagged may be able to still play for a while.

So, would submitting cheaters caught on other servers, for the sake of banning them here, be helpful?

Thanks again.

The only time we do this, is if they are a well known griefing clan such as myg0t or TEAM ROOMBA.

Other than that, we only ban when we catch them on our servers...While we trust the judgement of other admins out there, we like to always give the benefit of the doubt.
