September 2011 Rotation Feedback

Post by Stevo » Sat Sep 03, 2011 10:44 am

TV2 is meant to reflect the preferences of the community. These preferences may change frequently, so this should be reflected in the map rotation. In order to do this, we require solid feedback from the community.

In this thread:
  • Suggest any maps, old or new, to be added to the rotation
  • Post any maps in the rotation that you want removed
  • Make any other suggestions or criticisms of the current map selection
For reference, here is the current rotation:
cp_toy_fort
cp_blazewalk_rc5
pl_dbheights_b5
pl_waste_v2
cp_desertfortress
ctf_haarp_test7b
cp_gullywash_pro
cp_observatory4
cp_labor

I think removing Harp would be a good idea. Over all that map has not fared well in practice often losing large chunks of server population and not attracting any new players. I would like to suggest that we move KOTH Lolcano into the rotation. we have voted this map in several times and it often draws in a large number of random players. We have even managed to seed with this map. If we do this I would recommend keeping the map timer fairly short less than 30 minutes as KOTH maps are rather small and can get boring fast.

What CSS said. Haarp didn't turn out as well as I had hoped, new people did not grasp the concept quickly enough. Lolcano is, at the very least, something that everyone who has played it seems to enjoy as change of pace. The rest of the maps are doing okay...

Also, hopefully I will have more time these days to try to actually seed TV2 in the first place...

Keep Haarp on. Reverse CTF is a fun mode.

If we're going to keep reverse CTF on, then use avaintaville(sp?), not haarp.
One map to remember as opposed to 3, 4 points versus 6, and faster rounds.

Plus it has the advantage of anyone who played TF2 for the villympics knowing the map and strategies.

When Mad-Hammer finishes his Warpath Remake put that on the server.

Haarp just isn't polished. If nothing else I don't like how it puts the intel back at the beginning of the map.

I have no problem with Haarp, though I acknowledge that the server doesn't often do well with it. I like the playstyle, but it seems some others don't. I would love to see Avantiville on there.

I would be seriously opposed to Warpath being on the server, good reskin or not. Warpath is a polarizing map that some people love, but an equal number hate. That'd be like putting Dustbowl on customs. Baaaad plan.

I don't quite understand the obsession behind toy fort. You may as well just play a KoTH map with such a small cluster.... of a map. Just me speaking, I don't care a whole lot for it.

I would love adding a good custom KOTH map to TV2, I enjoy KOTH. But then I also enjoy arena occasionally.

YES. ARENA. DO IT.

Though, I don't know any custom maps to begin with so...I can't really make reccomendations other than I don't like toy fort, but understand that its popular....for some reason...

I personally hate Toy Fort[1], but acknowledge that it can actually populate the server.

No Warpath on any server but TV8. Please. Keep it in its own yard.

I haven't gone looking for new customs in a while. The back catalog on TV2 is very large, but many of those maps are merely okay.

I'd rather put KOTH maps on than Arena, which, given the nature of the game we're playing, has too much permanent death and being locked out of teams due to player number issues.

I would like to see CP_SAINTS add to the rotation.
Anyone who's played DoD 1.3 will pick it up quick.
