How much money you looking to spend, and what all do you plan on doing with your new setup? Latest games? Going to Vista? CAD? Pr0n? Maybe me and others can tell you what would fit your needs with some more info. The only info I would give you, not knowing these things is....make sure you slap 2 gigs of mem in it. Your system will love you for it.

mmm im going for a general low-end gaming computer, needs to have a video card that can play source, 1ish gigs of ram and at least 160 gig hard drive

This is assuming you will be using some of the parts from your old system (case, keyboard, burner, mouse, etc.). You probably might want to get a decent case, with a nice power supply also, but I didn't price it. The motherboard actually has onboard video (ATI Express 200) that could play source engine games at a cost of dropping the res down and playing with low AF and no AA. Same video I have on my laptop. To be honest it plays Wow at 1440x900 with 2x AF and no AA. Plays it well too. If that is good enough for you, it would knock $150.00 off the total. Being framerate is crucial in online FPS's, not sure if I would use the onboard video though.

Total would be under $450.00 as linked.

Not sure your price range, and you could get cheaper, and this setup is not weak by no means. Closer to mid-range, than low range. It would eat up source games. I still would look into the 2 gig memory thing though.

A nice entry-level/ mid-range setup. Especially if you want to play source. You'll be able to play newer games definitely, however, at a cost of eye candy.

well it comes to roughly 425... without tax or shipping, and im not really sure what is a good... "power supply", i do have a keyboard, mouse a moniter.... and a "hold-it-together case" if you catch my drift...

"Eye Candy":

Turning all the graphically enhanced and pretty video options in games. I.E. Anti-Aliasing, Anistrophic Filtering, Textures set to high, Shadows, etc... you get the point. These I call "Eye Candy." I meant that with that type of mid-range rig, you'll have to settle with some/most options of 'eye candy' set to medium/low. Some you can set on high of course, it all really depends on what game.

On source, you'd be able to set the graphic options on high.

Then it will be like playing a new game. Seriously.

As far as the power supply, it should be at least 400w, highest amperage on the +12 volt rails as possible. You could get by with a high quality 350w one. The cpu and video card will be drawing over 225w at idle, just by themselves. Then you still have to add drives......well, you get the drift. You will also need the SATA power connectors if you choose a SATA drive, like the one I quoted. You could get an ide hard drive also, if you prefer that method. But, I can almost guarantee you, that the power supply you are using now will not be efficient enough, if you choose to upgrade. I would definitely be sad if your power supply takes a dump, and wipes its ass with your new components. DO NOT skimp on your power supply. It is probably the most important piece in your box. Oh, and good luck if you choose to upgrade.

definately do your research when buying parts too, make sure they work well together. read some of the reviews, i'll brief on a couple of the positive ones, but I focus a little more on the negative and check to see how many there are. just to get an idea of what others have had for problems, so I'm a little more prepared for the future.
