So I had to do a wedding the other day and they asked me for old skool rap. So I played stuff like Vanilla Ice, Sir Mix A Lot, Salt N Peppa, MC Hammer, Ect... They complained that I was not playing old skool. So I changed it up into 2 Live crew, 2 Pac, Snoop Dog, Beastie Boys, ect... and still the complained. So I asked them what they consider to be old skool and they told me Eminem, D4L, Early Kanye West, Usher, Dem Franchise Boys, ect... I don't know about you, but groups that are only 5 or so years old don't seem "Old Skool" to me. Am I crazy, or are people just stupid musically now?

I personally dont listen to rap much, but If you request old skool and want eminem? you must be barking up the wrong tree. I think you were right in assuming they wanted that kind of stuff, its what I would've thought of

No, more like 18-20, though there were a few younger ones.

I also was yelled at once for playing the "edited" version of Kasper from the K's Watcagonnado (however you spell it). For those of you how do not know that song, it is a guy rapping over Animotion's Obsession. Obviously I was playing Obsession, but the "younger" folks did not understand that most rap songs are now just some one rapping over an 80's or early 90's song

I also like how many kids consider old skool too clean. When it comes down to it I think old skool was dirtier then modern rap, the only reason kids can't tell is because they have to be handed everything. You use slang and metaphors and they are lost. Teacher always laugh at the fact that you can play shook me all night long or pour some sugar on me at a school because the kids don't get it even though it has far more innuendo then most rap songs

Just look at NWA. Just that name alone isn't to clean

And lets not forget Louie Louie, a song so hard to understand that it caused a Senate investigation in to it because they thought it was that dirty of a song. Yet no rap song has caused that really

dont get me started on old school rap, 80% of the music on my pc is in my opinion old skool rap, you should of played rapture by blondie if im not wrong one of the first songs to chart containing a rap, now you cant get much more old school than that. and as for old skool been clean, was'nt 2 live crew's "nasty as you wanna be" found to be legally obscene" in a court in Florida

the youth of today are far to now not then, they dont relise hip hop as been around since the early 70's with DJ Kool Herc and Afrika Bambaataa.
