Well - flood season ended a few months ago, and now its fire season. The air is a nice brown today in the sacramento valley, and this map explains why:

It is just plain NASTY outside...

Yes. There are two seasons here in So Cal.

Greenish Brown, marked by shorter periods of sun and longer periods of dark. occasionally, a mist might fall from the sky. I hear that other places get this in greater concentration and it's called 'rain' there.

The other season, which we are currently in the midst of, is called Brown. It's light a lot of the time, and quite hot. Darkness does not last as long, and all of the hills are a profusion of colors! There's brown dirt, brown rocks, brown sand, brown bushes and brown trees, too!

In between the two seasons is a brief, fairy-like time. I don't know what it's called. But if you manage to drive down the 15 freeway south toward San Diego, you will see a profusion of amazing wild flowers all over the hills. I used to make this drive (about 90 miles worth), several times a week. I'm not kidding, the flowers last 2-3 weeks, tops. Photographers stop along the highway and hike off into the hills to get pictures. It's that amazing. Then it's gone and Brown comes.

The map is the "Grouping" of some of the fires. Some of those are 100+ fires represented with 1 flame.

For those wondering, this was caused by a freak lightening storm; no rain - just dry lightening.

Sorry to hear that.
Alabama is pretty nice this time of year or at least for the next week or so.

I remember the first time I visited California and was riding from SFO to the East Bay and being how shocked at how brown everything was. Except the redwoods, which were shocking in and of themselves. Still one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.
Hope the fires stay well away from all the Golden villuns tho.

Coming from a Cali-villun who evacuated his whole family last summer....

the fires suck, but it's worth it.

Where I live everything is gray... concrete gray. Besides my nice green landscaping I take care of, that is a lovely shade of green. :D

Sorry to hear this, Spam. This is awful. I remember when we went through this a couple years back. It's hard on the animals too.
