I agree 9 was definitely super short. As someone who did see the original short film, I thought that what the movie lacked even more than more "movie time" was that it did not spend enough time "humanizing" the characters, in other words, making the main character (nicely voiced by Elijah Wood) easy to relate to. Throughout the movie as events were unfolding, I had a hard time carrying about both him and in turn his friends, which in a movie that is just over an hour long, is a serious flaw.

Overall though, it was visually stunning, I recommend seeing a matinee so you save some coin, or wait for the BlueRay (as a regular DVD probably won't look as good).

That movie suggested the scientist was one ninth female.

Well, I watched the newer version of "Sherlock Holmes" with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law. I was very disappointed.

First off, why did they pick Robert Downey Jr. to play Sherlock? It was a stretch. This whole movie seemed to be wrapped around Sherlock being some kinda of street fighting thug who sometimes solved crimes between drinking and taking advantage of his friendship with a very street saavy Watson. I am not sure I liked how they tried to modernize this classic. I thought it would be funnier, at least. Not too thrilled with it all.

I give it two thumbs down!

Jeeez talk about zombie threads... Ok lets see...

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004) - AWESOME MOVIE with Bill Murray, what did you expect? Plus the art direction is pretty fantastic.

Dredd (2012)
Amazing film; went in with low expectations and I was really surprised, great visuals and I think the story benefits from not being the typical "save the entire planet/universe" superhero film

Under the Skin

An art film that is not for entertainment. It is simultaneously cold, sensual and horrifying.
It plays across the range of human emotions with surgical precision. If you have patience for the
slower moments, you will be rewarded with pearls of perspective.

I just saw The Grand Budapest Hotel today at the theater. Its been out for a bit, but boy was it awesome. Wes Anderson, director of The Life Aquatic, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Moonrise Kingdom, and the Royal Tenenbaums throws another witty comedy out there. It's a wonderfully rich story, and its so fast paced that if you look away for 2 minutes you'll miss an entire event.

Beneath 4 layers of story-within-story, it's about the adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend. At it's center it is a comedy about life, loss, and friendship in the iconic style of Anderson. If you like this, see the others I listed above.

Just found this thread, so I figured I'd start by posting a movie I know about...

The Fantastic Mr. Fox

If you love stop-motion animation, don't pass this up. The animation is great, the voice acting is great and the comedy is spot on (though certainly a bit more dry than other films and as such, not for everyone). The plot is a tiny bit predictable, but still enjoyable all the way through.

It's worth noting that there's no actual swearing, but they do have a somewhat novel way of handling that. Suffice to say it won't really be an issue if watching with younger crowds. Also, virtually no blood, but some violence (though usually shown in a similar matter to cartoons - Xs in the eyes for knocked out, etc).

Strongly recommend if you like stop motion or the quirky humor used in the movie.
