There are scotch calendars available in the US... Not sure who sells them, but one of my coworkers had one last year and would come in with her tasting notes each day in December.

December 1st is here Woo Hoo !

Well, I followed the instructions and on December 1st I opened the door marked 1, pulled out the craft beer, snapped a photo and put it into the fridge so it would be nice and cold when I got home in the evening.

The unopened Advent Calendar

The beer for December first is from Anderson Valley Brewing Company in Boonville, California (ha ha, they are Villuns). Its called Fall Hornin' Pumpkin Ale and I had mixed feelings when I first read that. I have never been a fan of pumpkin anything except for pumpkin pie, I always figured a pumpkin ale would need whipping cream on it (thats how I like my pumpkin pie) and whipped cream on a beer would just be somehow wrong.

Their website is located at : http://avbc.com/

And below is the beer open and in a mug ready for a tasting.

To be honest I was surprised by the taste, it was a darker beer and really tasted more of beer than anything else, I really didnt taste much for pumpkin or pumpkin spice (which I was happy about to be honest) and I wasnt craving whipped cream on the beer :)

looks like 1 down and 23 to go.

A very dark beer, slightly bitter tasting to me and a definite aftertaste of licorice. I dont think I would buy this again but it wasnt awful.

Cheers

Some things are not meant to be put into a beer.

Licorice? Ewww. That's just wrong.

Independence PA should be pretty good if you like Pale Ales - If it's what I'm thinking of, my brother is a fan.

Sorry folks, been lazy and have not edited and uploaded the photos.

December 3rd was again the Independence Pail Ail

I have to say that I didnt enjoy this beer all that much, it was unfiltered, had notes of citrus, but it also had a harsh bite after every swallow. Ah well a new beer on the 4th.

December 4th found me with a beer from the Strathroy brewing Company in Strathroy, Ontario.

http://strathroybrewingcompany.ca/

Its called 1915 XXXX Peacemaker and its listed as an English Strong Ale.

Image

I enjoyed it with some hard summer sausage and I have to say I really enjoyed the beer. It was smooth and had a nice flavor, I could have had another :)

December 6th finds me with something called Biere De Noel - Holiday Extra Strong Ale from the Big Sky Brewing Company in Missoula, Montana.

Unfortunately I have been feeling like I have a cold starting so I avoided drinking this beer tonight and thats going to completely mess up the whole calendar if I end up with a cold. Well, we shall see what tomorrow brings.

Well, I am behind a day, I dont need two beer in one evening, at least not tonight as I have my performance appraisal tomorrow and I dont need to be sick or hung over (2 beer?) or well just stupider than usual.

The beer from the 6th which I enjoyed tonight on the 7th is the "Biere de Noel" and fortunately it didnt taste like a candycane, it was rather enjoyable and I would have it again if I could.

Image

The December 7th beer is from Camerons Brewing in Ontario and its called into the shade. I will be enjoying it tomorrow night.

I rather enjoy this brewery's motto "Brewed by a Connoisseur, not an Accountant"
