Ow!
Finally feeling well enough to be able to post this. Last Thursday Wednesday on my bike ride I got into a serious accident. I live in the middle of nowhere so I bike on empty country roads only pretty much, so the grass on the side of the road is rarely cut and is both thick and tall. As I was cycling a groundhog pops out of the grass and comes onto the road about a foot in front of me. And the groundhog just stops rights in front of me. I have no time to react so I run it over which causes me to do some combination of a barrel roll and/or a flip off of my bike.
I really don't remember the specifics of my fall but evidently I fell hard and right shoulder area and I do remember my head sliding on the road. (This is why you always wear a helmet) The whole right side of my body is in a lot of pain and my right arm is pretty much locked at a 90 degree angle now. I pull my cellphone out of the pocket in my shirt and call my mom to get me home.
This was my first time ever experiencing literal shock before and it was... the worst feeling ever. Period. All the muscles in my body were tense, I could hardly move, and I kept shaking. My mom takes me to urgent care and they did some basic stuff before transferring me to a trauma hospital. (Morphine is nice btw)
My crash was so severe they pretty much x-ray me from head to toe. Any area that I said hurt, even if it was minor, got x-ray'd. I also got a CT scan. Finally they say my clavicle is fractured into four pieces and one of the chips is protruding outward against my skin. (I was told it was really easy to see)
I stayed the night Thursday Wednesday and had my operation Thursday morning around 7:30. I got a plate and a bunch of screws which is cool I guess. After I get the okay from therapy people and my doctor I was allowed to leave and got home late that night. And now I'm just resting on the couch all day and doing some minor exercises for my shoulder.
This is the first day I'd say I'm finally feeling well. I'm hoping to recover quickly but we'll see. Besides from my clavicle I got bad road rash on my shoulder blade, forearm, rib, and knee. (all right side) Oh and my helmet got totally wrecked. It easily kept me conscious and yeah... it saved my life. I'll see if I can take a good picture of it later.

Re: Ow!
Ouch indeed. While I've never experienced anything of this sort, I know people who have, including someone who was in a nasty motorcycle wreck. Here's hoping to a swift recovery.
This is hard to be cool and suave while being informative at the same time. Goddamn my coolness.
In my experience, common sense isn't too common.

Yowsa! Glad to hear you're on the road to recovery! Sorry to hear of the painful experience, though glad for the helmet - that is absolutely critical. Good timing for Steam summer sale - hopefully there is a game or two there that will help you pass the time as you recover.

It ran out, stopped, squeaked. I ran it over, screamed in mid-air and heard it squeack again. I never saw it after the crash so I assume it lived. They're pretty hard to kill honestly.dammets89 wrote:Is the groundhog okay?

Re: Ow!
Ouch! I badly broke my wrist last summer and had to have surgery to put it back together, too. I sympathize - it sucks!
Get well soon and if they send you to Physical Therapy, be sure to go - it makes all the difference! Good luck!

Ow, I feel that crash. Never been injured that badly but I've had some impressive crashes mountain biking. Good luck on the recovery.
