Well for starters, "miss using" (a girl I knew in high school) instead of misusing. Sorry mlite, I had to. :D

All the above mentioned ones are true for me, but the absolute worst, as in I don't know why they get paid, are the people who do the closed-captioning for TV news shows. Half the time it can't be read as coherent sentences. Even when it can be read, it's dreadfully misspelled or abbreviated. Do we not have machines that could do this in real time?

Thank you, I feel better now. Carry on.

@Inner - those are machines trying to do it in real time. That's why they're so bad! They need to hire a court reporter to take dictation for the captions and be done with it.

Ahhh, I see. That actually makes a lot more sense to me. Thanks!

Oh man, and it's so unprofessional too. I hate when my students email me and use unprofessional writing such as text message shorthand. It's a sure fire way to ensure I'll skim over your question.
Same here. I made one egregious offender rewrite their midterm for using texting words outside of direct quotations. A paper which was otherwise a solid A.
The other one that gets me is ending sentences in prepositions. From students and colleagues. And my department head. It's a great way to earn my scorn.

What is this that you speak of? Prepositions at the end of sentences? Who are you speaking to?

So I really can't stand it when people start sentences with "so."

Also bugs me a lot when people leave the first word or two out of a sentence, especially if it's just "I," "I'm," "it," or similar.

So is the best conjunction that ever lived, so you should use so more often.
