I'm back with some new toys!
I know I have not been too active on the forums lately due to getting used to college life, there is just so much to do here that I forget to check up on you guys here. I'll try to post more now that I feel a bit more comfortable here. Which brings me to my next point, One thing I have been trying to get into is a skeet/trap shooting club at school. For the first couple of meetings I borrowed somebody else's shotgun, but I think it was time to get my own, and I did. I am now the proud owner of a Mossberg 500! I know we have a lot of gun-nuts here so I figured I would share.

I own 2 Moss. 500's 1 in 12 and the other 20, both with 26in. barrel.
When out bustin clay's I prefer to use the 20 with 2 3/4 low brass.
But out of all the shotguns, I love my Remington 1100. But until I can get some new wood for it. She's stuck in the safe .

What are the odds, I have a Mossberg 500 too! Mines got a full choke and a 30 inch barrel, so it's not perfect for trap but still works.

Did yours not come with the choke kit? Or do you have one of the first production 500's?Larry wrote:What are the odds, I have a Mossberg 500 too! Mines got a full choke and a 30 inch barrel, so it's not perfect for trap but still works.

It's older, I think my dad might have bought it in highschool.<eVa>mlite wrote:Did yours not come with the choke kit? Mossys are good guns, I have a 590A1, its better for zombie defense than for skeet/trap though. I have a remington 870 20 gauge which is my go to gun for gamebirds and I would use it for skeet if needed. I do have one other shotgun, its a dominion arms with an 8.5" barrel Its not for trap or skeet, its my camp gun if there are 4 legged critters around.
Below is a picture of the model, its the top image, small enough to pack with you, big enough to deal with most issues. Check youtube for some videos people have posted of it being shot, a bit of a handfull but still fun.
OK I would try skeet with it, I doubt my chances of success would be high though.

Re: I'm back with some new toys!
We miss you, Peahats! Awesome to hear from you, I was wondering how you were and how college life was treating you.
I encouraged my two (when they went off to college) to do something fun. College can be intense and the party life is often
overwhelming. So a "fun" class was a good idea. My son took bowling, which was rather funny. He is a large man, a linebacker in college football.
To see him walk up and casually throw what looked like a tiny ball in his hands was great. Turns out, he's quite good. Who knew?
My daughter took a surfing class her first year. She loved it! She and her fiance surf as often as they can.
I love skeet shooting! I've only done it a couple times and I borrowed my friend's gun too. So much fun!
Take care, my friend and be sure to pop in to let us know how you are.

Wow Larry, what I would not give for a 30" barrel! Unfortunately, it's only got a 18" barrel, but I'm getting a 24" one that is choke compatible soon.
Here's a picture of about what I got (even comes with a pistol grip which I will probably never use)

Wait, when it says six shots, does that include the one in the chamber; or does it mean it can hold six shots in the magazine?Peahats wrote:Wow Larry, what I would not give for a 30" barrel! Unfortunately, it's only got a 18" barrel, but I'm getting a 24" one that is choke compatible soon.

I'd assume 6 in the magazine. Though, some states have laws on how many you can have loaded when hunting.

Ha! I also own a Mossberg 500. We could start a club.

All this talk about shotguns, and we haven't even gotten to revolvers and bolt-action rifles.

That round count is 5 in the well and 1 in the hole. Using 2 3/4 in shells, at least mine is with the plug removed.
Federal law states that. A shot gun used for hunting migratory birds may only hold 3 total shots, 1 in the hole and 2 in the well.
Some things we keep quite about , you know the NSA/CIA/FBI/BATF/VPD/VBS. Is monitoring what we talk about.Joel wrote:All this talk about shotguns, and we haven't even gotten to revolvers and bolt-action rifles.
