Lets not forget the real reason for this. If you do the challenge you're supposed to make donation to theALS foundation. Be it 1 dollar or a million dollars, just make sure yoy donate afterward.

I've heard two different versions, there's yours, and one that says if you DON'T do the water within 24 hours you need to make a donation instead.

This challenge has raised $41 million dollars so far this year - it is a major charitable event for an important cause.

Also, I know of quite a few people who have a moral issue with the ALSA (due to their stance on embryonic stem cells). If that's the case, I think keeping the spirit of the idea alive is a good option. There are plenty of other charities out there to donate to, even if they aren't all related to ALS.

Anyway, as annoying as this is, popping up everywhere... it's working out quite well and has accomplished quite a bit.

This is all over the place. Much of the MLP voice acting crew has done it. Junichi Masuda (a major member of Game Freak's staff) has done it. I know there's more, it was front page news in the Boston Herald the other day.
