Friends List Organization
Now, I don't know about you, but my friends list on Steam has started getting pretty unruly as of late. All these darn <TVB>, .TVR, =USV=, and <eVa> people... something like that...
How do you organize your list so you can actually find the people you need?
I've currently got a "Ville" group, but that's essentially most of my friends list at this point.

Re: Friends List Organization
My friends list is built primarily around seeding (surprise surprise). I have the following tags:
No Invites
No Invites while in-game
Admin
Admin + No Invites
Anyone who doesn't fit into one of those categories has no tag, and does receive spam from me even if they're in-game.

Re: Friends List Organization
I have the admins tagged, but that's it.
This is hard to be cool and suave while being informative at the same time. Goddamn my coolness.
In my experience, common sense isn't too common.

Re: Friends List Organization
My needs are gonna be different but these are the groups I currently have setup. I make liberal use of the search function to find people and apply "Nicknames" to people who frequently change their Steam name.
CAPTAINS
SENIOR ADMINS
TRADERS (mostly empty, I add random trading strangers here so I can easily remove them later)
VILLE ADMINS
VILLE SEEDERS
FRIENDS
I'd start by establishing which subset of your friends you need to find most frequently (seeders, L4D2 players, etc) and create tag groups for them. Don't go overboard, there is no reason to create tag groups for the different guilds unless you frequently want to see who is online from the different ones. For TVB you can just switch to the GROUPS tab and expand the TVB Steam group to see who is online without having to tag anyone.

Re: Friends List Organization
I have mine sorted as follows:
School (colleagues and classmates)
IRL People
Villuns
Misc (anyone not fitting the above - only one person in there right now, but it has previously contained traders and the like)
This way I know that anyone left under the standard "Friends" tab is simply awaiting categorization.

I think that you need to prioritize what/who is most important to find quickly.

Re: Friends List Organization
TAGS are your tool Belak.
The one I use most often is "L4D2" so when we're trying to fill a lobby, I have a ready list of potential players.
Since it's TVC season, I'll soon have a tag for the team I'm on.
Also make use of the nickname feature to give ppl a permanent name no matter how often they change it. (I'm certainly not talking about you Refuel.)

Re: Friends List Organization
I do this as well, remember you can have multiple tags on ppl. However, this makes for a VERY long friends list.Inner wrote:TAGS are your tool Belak.

Re: Friends List Organization
I maintai only two special tags - one for the red & green names, and one for l4d2 regulars to invite when forming lobby. The rest are in the general list, where guilds mostly sort themselves and I can just check for a person by name with the search feature. I do make liberal use of the nickname function for my preferred search varient of folks who change a lot or use unusual symbols.

Re: Friends List Organization
I have one for villuns, one for friends from my old cs community, one for ugc teammates, one for ugc non-teammates, one for cevo/esea players/admins/teammates and a general one for people that don't fit any of the above.
I also nickname people who alias a lot so I know who they are.

Re: Friends List Organization
I choose to have only online line friends show. Then it's broken into 3 groups, Admins, Guild members, Seeders. I also use nicknames to denote what/who they are.
Who is online
